Welp, I went in to get my wires removed for a cleaning and found out that my bottom wire broke. I had no idea. Thank goodness for the cleaning!! The tech was surprised that it happened, but assumes it's due to me grinding my teeth and the pressure. I got a new bottom wire today and unfortunately, I'm a month behind on my bottom teeth .. since on tooth moved quite a bit on it's own. Slightly bummed, but hopefully it catches up quickly.

I just need to be a bit more disciplined with the elastics.

No problem :) It's mostly just for posterity sake.. something to look back on when this is all over (one hopes it really is this Sept!)

I forgot to update since my last appointment. Nothing much changed. I'm up to date on my bottom wire (I was a bit behind since I actually broke a wire and they had to downgrade it for awhile since one of my back teeth moved).. and that's about it. I can actually see a little bit of my bottom teeth -- so I guess that's a good start. I'm still stuck with those stupid buildups. Supposedly my debrace date is in Sept, we'll see if it stays that way. I also got x-rays.. and all looks good still. I do have one top tooth that's driving me nuts though with sensitivity and cold. Not necessarily cold drinks or items.. more like just talking when it's cold outside. I'm wondering if the powerchain is pulling my top teeth one way and the elastics another.. how does it all really work anyways?

But, that's about it. Hoping I can get the buildups off in April.

I broke my lower steel archwire once again.. after about 4 days of pain.. I decided to go in and get the wire clipped. The tech was shocked and thought that she forgot to clip it when she put it in last time.. but then she noticed when she was putting on the ligs that nope, the wire was indeed broken. At least I'm not a month behind again. I'm just curious what's causing me to break it in the first place. Argh. I go for my next appointment soon, so hopefully the ortho can let me know what I can do to prevent this.

Welp, I finally broke off a bracket after 17mths.. I didn't even notice until they took off the powerchain for my cleaning. It's weird to feel just the wire on that side, I won't get it replaced until next week at my next appointment.

But, the good news.. I'm hoping is that my dentist said that my bite looks good!!! Course, I'm curious what the ortho will say next week. But, I'm hoping that I'm on time and I can get these off in Sept!! I still am stuck with the buildups and I would love to get rid of those.. although by now they're not that big of a deal. But, still...

Oddly, my teeth hurt like heck from the wires being put back in after my teeth cleaning.. I can't even bite down all the way. :/ Not sure if that's good or bad.. no wire changes, just a missing bracket. Super tight though.

I can't wait to just deal with retainers :)

Welp, I told my ortho that I wanted them off by Thanksgiving (or that’s my goal) and she said that seems doable! I’d be excited to eat the holiday meals without food everywhere.. and I’d probably eat more without the braces! They gave me a wire tie this time, not really sure what that meant.. other than it was to prevent a tooth from rotating in the front. Also, they do move the appointments closer together at the end.. so, now I go back 7 weeks instead of 8. I’m not sure really what the difference, but they stated just minor tweeks. I'm still stuck with elastics, but that's OK for now. Two powerchains on top, one beneath the wire and one on top of the wire to close the gaps. It's strange. The powerchains close the gaps, the elastics cause the gaps.. so it's two forces fighting against the other..

… and interestingly enough, my ortho doesn’t recommend the permanent retainers.. least that’s not her first choice. I’m guessing it’s the clear ones.. but I think I’ll just stick with the old traditional wire ones.. they last longer from what I heard.

That's exciting about Thanksgiving debrace date!!

I think my ortho likes permanent on bottom only and then the old hawley retainer on top and I hope a clear essix too on the bottom. I will ask today. I am paranoid about my teeth going back and I am not doing braces a 3rd time.

Have you had an in n out burger lately? LOL, I had one in Arizona in the Spring. YUMMY! Bit messy with braces though and nothing tastes as good.

I have heard that most orthos do, I was a bit surprised that mine didn't.. if you have a permanent one on the bottom, do you need an essix one on top of it?? Yeah, I can't imagine going thru this process 3x -- and I think I'm willing to do whatever I have to do not to go through this again!! Not only for the pain of having braces, I don't think I'd want to spend the money again either.. :/

Yep, I eat one every once in awhile.. cheeseburger, animal style :) I get it cut in half.. just a bit easier to eat! But, it is super yummy!! Worth the mess!!

Welp, I finally finally finally got the buildups off at my last appointment!! It's not perfect, but it was a start! Happy I didn't need them anymore, although, they didn't really bug me.. except knowing that they're there. The ortho stated that I could probably get them off sometime in Oct! I'm hoping at my next appointment next week.. that she still states that! I have a friend here who got her braces on after I did and she's getting them off next week!! I'm so jealous, but I'm really happy for her :) Plus, I can ask her all sorts of questions on how it goes and how the retainers are...

I'm so looking forward to dealing with retainers and having my teeth nekkid again. I've learned that you can deal with braces and after awhile sort of ignore them, but they're always there...

Well, it's looking better and better.. the ortho said, I should go back in after 3 weeks (technically, it'll be 4 since she's not in the office at 3 weeks), and then 4 weeks after that.. BRACES OFF!!!

I'm still stuck with 2 powerchains on top (one beneath the wire, one over the wire) .. rubber bands on both sides and one rubber band in the front at night to align my midline. They added hooks using wire to my front brackets. Hopefully they don't bend too much .. I sorta bent one and it really hurt my lip. :/ So, they fixed it before I left..

Anyways, the ortho also stated that they can utilize rubber bands with a retainer and may do that on the right hand side. The left is pretty much almost fixed completely, she didn't think the right would ever be completely fixed.. but stated that we knew that in the beginning.

I'm pondering some glow in the dark retainer or purple.. or something nifty. My friend already got hers off on Tuesday and her teeth looked awesome!

WHOOHOOO Almost done.

Let me tell you life after braces is awesome. I am eating spaghetti as I type and don't have to worry about stained ligs ;-) and and really enjoying life again. I know its silly but I think I was a little depressed with braces. Got my teeth cleaned this week and loving my new smile.

LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN!!!

Yes, I cannot wait!!! She was telling me how awesome it was as well! Eating is a big thing. I've lost weight and I know it's stupid, because I can eat pretty much what I want.. it's just that I choose not to. It's such a pain. But, I can't wait to get back to my normal eating habits. Being able to eat bread and such and not work at getting it out of the brackets/teeth for the next 30 min.. or having food caught in the braces and not know about it until you look in the mirror!

Just being able to take the retainers out will be so so so so so nice!!

Welp, the time is nigh!!! or near!!!

DEBAND in 4 WEEKS!!!!

I'm so so so excited!!! You'd think with the debanding so near, that this appointment would be minor. The good news is that they took out the hooks in the front for the elastic to fix my midline. Those hooks were bugging (well, the bottom one was...) and kept digging into my lip. But, today I got the "closed" powerchains (under and on top of the wire) to close my two gaps. I don't know why I didn't get those before, those gaps have been there forever since I started to wear elastics. I'm still stuck with wearing elastics, but they don't bother me too much anymore.

The bottom, she put some bends in the wire and well, after a few hours, my bottom teeth are a tad sore. My bite feels a tad off. I assume in a couple of weeks, it'll feel normal again.

After getting debanded, I have a week with nothing on my teeth!!! Good or bad? I get my retainers a week later.. and I'm a tad scared, I've heard horror stories. But, it can't change my excitement to get these braces off before my birthday and before the holidays this year!

I believe some peoples teeth can shift a tiny bit quite quickly (someone on youtube had a space open up the same day but they started out with spaces in their teeth so might be why) and others not at all. But I would think that because the impressions for the retainers are taken right after the braces and glue removal if anything moves at all in that week the retainer will help put everything back to how your teeth were right after the deband.

I look forward to reading how your debracing appointment goes :D
