SUNGKI'S Journey (Molar Bands in - 11/17/2007)

#1 Post by sungki »

Hi,

This forum has really helped me a lot in so many ways. At first, I thought that my case would be helpless. But after seeing the different stories of the people here, I realized that I have a better circumstance. I realized that braces could fix even the most difficult cases.

I have therefore decided to push through with my dream. Since I am conscious about the aesthetics and don't want people to immediately notice I'm wearing braces, I am getting ceramic brackets. I had to choose between 3M Clarity and Ormco Inspire Ice. After thorough research, I chose Inspire Ice.

On Nov. 10, 2007, the spacers were placed. I am now on my second day and all I can say is that it hurts a lot to eat. I am taking Mefenamic acid for the pain. Hopefully, it will not be that painful anymore on the fourth day.

My braces are going to be placed on Nov. 17. I'm looking forward to that :D

By the way, I'm 28 years old. My teeth have been like this since I was a kid. Unfortunately, my family couldn't afford braces. I can say that this has affected my confidence. Now that I'm working, I'm able to pay for it.

I'll upload pictures next week ...Stay tuned!

More power to this forum and to you guys!

Hi Sungki

You're beginning your brace journey exactly a year after I started mine. I must say that my year has flown by. You won't regret it, it is amazing how those little wires move things around. I have been really happy with the changes in my teeth.

I was lucky not to have spacers but I've heard people here say that they can be the worst part of the whole brace experience although hopefully they won't be too bad for you.

I'm sure that KK will post her very good advice to you. One of the best bits of advice that I got was to feel around with your tongue at the back when the brace is fitted to make sure that the wire is trimmed nicely otherwise it will poke your cheek, not very nice. Also I found the silicone wax invaluable in the early days.

Good luck with your fitting and I hope that your brace journey turns out to be a good one and painfree as mine has been.

Regards
Joney

Thank you for all the support and encouragement :) Your tips will really come in handy.

I am now on my third day with spacers. Unfortunately, the pain is so excruciating  I have not been able to eat a decent meal. It's painful to chew on anything. All I can eat are soft foods like mashed potato, fish fillet, noodles, and soup. I am just hoping that I don't have to go through this agony again once the braces are put on.

On the bright side, I am still very excited and I can't wait to get my braces on this Saturday! :D

Hello,
I'm 22 and I just got spacers put in yesterday. So far my teeth are aching a bit and feel a little bit strange but I'm hoping it doesn't get worse...? Would I be wrong in thinking this? Good luck with the braces, I'm so nervous about mine but I can't wait to get my teeth looking straight and to not worry about covering up my mouth when I laugh.

Hi guys,

Today is my brace day :D

I took pictures of my teeth so I'll have something to compare with in the future.

Here they are:

BEFORE BRACES (Nov. 16, 2007)

My ortho mentioned something like I have Class II malocclusion, severe overbite/overjet, crowding, misaligned midline, major bone loss on my lower teeth. Treatment will take 2.5-3 years.

I'll upload pictures of my teeth with braces after they are put on later. Wish me luck! :)

So I went to my ortho yesterday expecting to have my braces fitted. The spacers were removed and my ortho placed molar bands. She was supposed to place 8 molar bands all in all. However even putting the first molar band was a challenge. It took her two and a half hours to put all four. She says that my teeth are so tight :( So she placed another set of spacers for my three number 2 molars. The fourth number 2 molar was so tight that she could not put a spacer into it. With this constraint, my ortho was not able to place my braces yet :( Now, I have to wait another week

The feeling of having molar bands is so weird! I can feel metal to metal grind at each other whenever I try to eat something. I ended up not eating anything because I just can't bear the feeling of the metal. I no longer feel my upper and lower molars hitting each other. I think I don't like molar bands. On the other hand, maybe it just takes some getting used to. I'll have to wait and see...

That sounds like a tough deal you got there sungki. It doesn't sound too good that you're having trouble eating either, Karen's suggestion of calling your ortho is sound advice. Here's to you feeling more comfortable and being able to eat properly soon :flowerbloom:
Hopefully your molars get enough space so you can get your braces put on next week.
Good luck with everything :-#)
