Pebbles Braced Again - Full Metal Damon 3MX

#1 Post by Pebbles »

Hiya,

I'm new here and am happy to have found Archwire. I'm 48 years old and am looking to get braces for a 2nd time.

I had braces when I was 20 years old, given a bonded lower retainer. Everything was perfect until I changed Dentists about 18 years ago. He was an older man and insisted I remove the retainer, even though I'd never had gum or flossing problems. In like 2 years my teeth had moved back, then he retired. My new dentist, who's still my dentist today, has always said the removing of a bonded retainer is a major mistake. Over the years he'd mentioned my having my teeth corrected again, but I felt down about having a brace on my teeth in my 30s or 40s.

About a month ago my friend at work, who's 35, got braces to correct shifting. She inspired me to go in for a consultation to see her Orthodontist because he has many adult patients.

I went and was given very good news. My teeth have shifted, I do have some wear, but it can be easily corrected. I am thrilled and anxious to think I'm going to get my teeth corrected again.

I go back on Tuesday 12-4-07 to hear what my options are.

Thank you again for having this site.
Wish me luck!

Thank you for the support.
This site is just wonderful.
I have learned alot and love reading the advise/stories of everyone here.

Today my Mum came to my house so I could look something up for her on the internet. I got brave and told her about my going in to get braces. and SHOCK - she was not negative! She didn't act like my Mum at all. She didn't say "you are pretty as you are, don't spend your money" or anything like that. She said yes, the front teeth were sticking out again, then asked questions, like did I think it was going to be expensive, painful, etc...

So I brought her to this fantastic website and showed her the different types of modern braces. She noticed that the Home page says It's a Website for Adults in Braces. So what I was looking at wasn't something teenagers were doing, I was doing what adults are doing. Like I'm not reaching outside what's proper for my age.

I really thank you all for this wonderful website!

I had my big consultation and I can't get Lingual braces. As much as I liked reading about them and seeing the photos, I can not afford them. The cost for them was twice as much as brackets.

I'm lined up to get my brackets on Jan 9th....
I'm getting Damon brackets with 6 Inspire Ice brackets on my upper front teeth.

Congrats on your decision. I can relate to teeth shifting and wearing braces as an slightly older adult. I have Damon brackets and other than the elastics I have not had any difficulty with them and I would recommend them if asked.

Good luck and may your ortho journey be a smooth and quick one.

Good on you for making the decision to get braces again! It sounds like we're going to have exactly the same brackets - I'm having Damons and Ice as well (well, I think I'm going to have the Ice brackets, I'm still to-ing and fro-ing between those and just going all-metal).

It's brilliant that you've got your Mum on your side as well; it'll be great to have a family member that you can talk about your progress with, and celebrate with when you're done!

OK --- I'm on the jumping off point....
Wednesday of next week - Jan 9th - I get my braces !

I am getting Damon brackets, with Inspire Ice clear brackets on my front 6 teeth.

I'm both scared to near to death and excited at the same time.... So I'm trying to keep the excited part in the front of my thoughts !

I'm old and have bad teeth, bad bite...
but in 12-14 months, I'll just be old ! I will not have bad teeth or a bad bite. ha,ha,ha,ha,ha !!!

Thank you so much for this great site.
I have read everything on the links and have learned so much about braces -- much more than I ever knew when I was in college and had them the first time....

funny, when your parents paid for them and their insurance paid part of it, you just never notice or care much, except you want straight teeth. You don't care if bonded retainers are removed.

but 20 years later and everything has gone down the pan, and your have migraines, teeth clashing, tooth wear, bite is off becoming narrow for your face, etc.... and you find your self reading up on what's available, what they do, how they look and what they cost....

again, thanks for this site and everything I've learned.

BJ

I forgot to add....

My Birthday is January 9th ... and sure enough, that is the next available appointment date my ortho could give me....

So my brace date is my Birthday ! I've never spent thousands of dollars on myself, like braces.... usually it's a car I buy that takes this type of down payment and monthly payments.....

So next Wednesday will be a big day for me, I'll be 49 years old and in braces... LOL ! ! !

Thank you all --

and Ken I never thought about adding the coloured ligatures to the clear ice brackets.

For St Patricks day I could do the whole green thing !! ha,ha,ha!! Green teeth, how funny. And for Easter, pink, yellow and green ! OMG! I could have such fun with it !

and gurl, I will be eating ice cream for sure. I love it when it's about half melted so I'll drink my ice cream if I have to!!

and yes, four days! EEK ! Freaking out!

Hi Pebbles,

Happy birthday and b-day for Wednesday. What a great present to yourself! I'm a second timer too and doing the deed on Thursday! I myself am getting nervous and thinking to myself, what the heck am I doing! I know that in 12 months my teeth function is going to be much better off than they are today, and braces are temporary.

Lots of luck to your on your twin birthdays!!! :-)o

Hello, Pebbles and welcome to ArchWired! Tomorrow is the big day, Double B-Day Birthday Brace Day! How exciting is that?!?!

Congratulations and Happy Early Birthday/Brace Day.. If you have access to a digital camera, you may want to consider taking pictures of your teeth before you get your braces on.... then immediately afterwards... and then taking pictures periodically (like once a month or after every adjustment) so you can track your own progress and inspire others in the process...

Looking forward to reading about your B-Day/Birthday!
