Miss Rabbit UK - Braced yesterday..24th Jan 08

#1 Post by missrabbit »

Hi all,

I've been reading this website inside out for the last few months, it's been so so helpful and I wanted to say hi to everyone.

I'm 29, work in media and live in London. My upper arch is very narrow and my teeth are crowded as a result. I also have a crossbite. I had my Damon 3 braces on yesterday..they hurt (more of a pressure) and i feel like I've got scaffolding on my teeth..I'm sure that feeling will go away and I'll stop feeling so very self concious??

Lots of my collegues have mentioned they all have at least 1 friend with a brace and it's becoming increasingly common in the UK, yeay!

Am feeling a bit sorry for myself but know its for a great reason. The lovely smile I've longed for the since my teens (parents / dentist decided against for reasons unknown, argh!) will finally happen..i can't imagine!

Will post pics soon..once I get used to them myself!

Thanks for reading..

Hi Missrabbit, and welcome to the forum. We Brits are taking over the boards here.

That scaffolding on the teeth feeling soon passes and I'm sure you will soon start to see progress. Pamper yourself this weekend if you can. Chocolate helps :D

Looking forward to seeing your pics and hearing more about your progress.

hey all,
found this site when looking in2 getting braces over last two weeks and its been so helpful and inspirational!
i am 25 and have wanted straighter teeth, top and bottom, for years, didnt have it sorted as a youngster and have decided to take the plunge!
went to c dentist and orthodontist for first time wednesday, had my teeth cleaned and they took x-rays and did moulds of my teeth, thought they were guna pull them out it stuck so much!! anyway, my orthodontist is in the process of preparing a treatment plan but she reckons i will have to have 2 teeth out on the top, none on the bottom and then braces for two year!!
am excited but very nervous about having the teeth out! ouch!
anyone else at this stage?
bye for now!
:)

That sounds great socks..I was living in Bristol for about 6 years 4 years ago! love it there.

Even though I'm finding it difficult at the moment, I know that everyone feels like this in the first few days but that feeling goes away (fingers crossed) and once I start seeing the progress it'll feel great & I on't be so self concious!

It feels good to have finally done somethting about it..

What type of braces are you having?

Hi Missrabbit and Socks,

Hi Spanner,

Wearing the brace is getting better by the second..my teeth are tender but I know it's just getting used to it!

Eating is a 'challenge'..am on soup and expect to be for a while so I'm definetley going to be losing some weight which can't be a bad thing!

The self ligating are good, I don't need to see my ortho for another 10 weeks!

Good luck for Tuesday, it'll be totally fine.

I hope I don't lose weight MissRabbit coz I'm already too thin. If I find eating too difficult at first I'll have to buy some protein drinks or sommat

No reason for anyone to lose weight! There are soft and nutritious foods you can definitely eat to SUPPLEMENT your diet! Hard boiled eggs, shredded meats, meal replacement drinks, instant breakfast shakes, potatoes, plenty of foods to go around!

You can always take something like and OTC pain killer a half hour before mealtimes.
Upper and lower 1st premolars extracted
Uppers braced 4/6/07 & Lowers braced 4/20/07
ceramic brackets and rectangular arch wires
Est. term: 30-36 months
De-banded: 3/04/09 w/ LBR and U&L Essix

Thanks! the diet change is a bit of a shock but you're right. We can even stay on the bread (minus the crusts!)

Within a few weeks you'll be chomping away as you did before. The only things I don't eat are whole apples (I cut them up) and hard vegetables like raw carrots.

No need for anyone to lose weight while braced (unless they want to!)

On my brace day my man is ordering a chinese takeaway. I'm determined I'm gonna eat it no matter what. Wash it all down with some champers should do the trick
