Ricochet - Braced 2/13, two extractions 2/25

I'm 32 and finally getting braces (clear uppers and metal lowers). I have an overbite causing my lower teeth to hit the roof of my mouth and some slight crowding.
I had the molds done last week. Apparantly, they are going to scan the molds into a computer, design the braces and install them all as one piece. Wasn't sure if anyone else had this done, or even heard of it. It seemed pretty new.
I'm also having two upper bicuspids pulled and anchoring the braces to TADs (mini screws). Looks like everything will be going on just before Valentines' Day. I'll be looking at 24 mos treatment.
Just thought I'd thow it out there. Just found and signed up for this site.

Welcome aboard! TAD's, you sound very excited! My ortho threw out the idea of having one TAD installed and I freaked, practically cried my way out of the office.
I think user: snowsara is almost done with her treatment using the OrthoCAD system to design her braces configuration and wires.

Surprisingly, I am actually excited. I've put it off so long, feels good to get started. Nervous and curious also. I just read a lot of your story from your topic....sounds like a wild ride. Big improvments though! I can't wait to see my own results.

Once it gets started, you'll probably go through, the "WHAT HAVE I DONE?" phase, then move on to the "I think my teeth are moving already!" It's pretty exciting to watch the changes. Can't wait until you start documenting your journey as well!

I'm already thinking I must be nuts for doing this. Oh well.
I didn't realize there were so many different options for braces. I'm just going with what the ortho recomended. Hopefully it's a good option. I'm meeting with the OS tomorrow to talk about pulling two upper bicuspids. The ortho is going to put the TADs in when I get the braces on I think. Hopefully everything going smooth.

You're not nuts! Nuts would be pulling ALL of your teeth to put in some implants and getting full dentures instead of working with your natural teeth. When I worked at an OS office, we had a few patients where they didn't want to restore teeth and such, ended up extracting ALL of their teeth and getting implants for dentures. The patients were also under the age of 50. Now isn't that crazy?

Ok, now that does sound a bit extreme.
I'll put some pics up after I get everything on. It's fun to see how others have progressed, so I guess I should post my own. 2/13 is my big day. Needless to say, it's going to be a quiet valentines day. My wife is very supportive though, so that's good. She had braces when she was a teenager.

OK, I've got the appointment to have the two upper bicuspids pulled. I'm getting braced 2/13 and the teeth pulled on 2/25. I figure that should be enough time for me to get over the general soreness of the braces and deal with having the teeth pulled.
Brace day is a week from today and I can't wait to get going!

Hi Ricohet, you sound so excited

I was too, excited, nervous and horrified at the same time! I had a micro screw fitted a few days ago, feels funny, like a weird mouth piercing! It was easy enough to fit and feel just fine, exciting stuff
Make sure you take plenty of good "before" photos from all angles, watching you progress is really motivational.

Hey Sarah,
Great to hear the mini screws worked out good for you. I wasn't sure how those would feel. Doesn't sound like it's anything to freak out about.
I have a bunch of before pics they took at the ortho, I should post them soon, so everyone knows where I stand.

Thought I'd finally post some pics of what I have going on. Hopefully they won't be too big
I guess the arrows will line up after I'm all done. The X marks the teeth to be pulled. The circled X is about where the mini screws will be.

Yeah, deep bite for sure. Luckily it's only when I chew. My lower jaw sits more forward normally. Most people don't notice...but it's definitely there!
Hopefully you see some results soon. Good news you didn't need any extractions!

OK, tomorrow's the day. Unfortunately, my regular cleaning just happened to fall on the same day that my braces go on. I probably should have rescheduled, but I figured I'd get the braces on with nice clean teeth. A cleaning at 8:30 and Ortho at 9:55 - my mouth will be open all morning!

Just a quick update. Got braced this morning. Not bad at all. Didn't get the TAD screws yet, I guess that'll be a few months down the road. We're going to straighten out the line, then pull everything in.
Two teeth to pull on 2/25 then a full upper wire two weeks later. I only have a partial wire now.
The only problem is the bottom bracket hits the back of my front incisor (sp) before my molars close. They didn't have any good spots to put a bumper or anything sooooo, I guess I'm on a soft food diet.
