Laineyloo's Brace Story (2 month pics)

#1 Post by laineyloo »

Hi all,

I got my top braces on yesterday. I have been reading a lot of the posts on this site for a few weeks now and it really prepared me for it. So thanks to everyone who is taking the time to share their experiences. I don't know anyone else with braces so it's great to be able to log in and share the good and the bad :)

So far though I have to say it has been a pretty good experience, even though it has been less than 24 hours :)
I was expecting them to feel much bigger in my mouth but they're not too bad at all. I thought I would want to hide away for a few days until I got used to them but I went to the shops straight after getting them on and found myself grinning at the shop assistants :D

I didn't have to get much work done before hand. I was lucky enough that I only had to get one pre molar taken out.

I went for all metal because it was my orthos reccomendation and I picked lavender ligs. My first adjustment is in 8 weeks and I will get my bottom braces on then.

I only started thinking about braces in the last six months. I didn't like my teeth but it didn't cross my mind to actually do something about it until I went to a new dentist and they mentioned it to me. I was thinking that at 30 it was too late to sort it out. Thankfully I was wrong!

All in all I'm glad to have started my journey .... I'm excited to see my teeth straighten out. I will post some pics later.

Jenny101101 - I had read your story before I went to get the top braces on and I too was sitting in a waiting room full of teenagers ... so I got a giggle out of that

Congrats on getting your braces on! I look forward to reading your story! I am 32 and going to get braces in the next couple of months. Still trying to decide on metal vs. ceramic. I have always liked the look of braces so I think I will do all metal too!

Post pics soon!

Hi Bekah,

Thanks a million! I had the option to get ceramic on the top front six if I really wanted them. I just decided to go all metal in the end mostly because my ortho preferred that.
Good that you like the look of braces ... I think they are kinda cute too. Definitely not half as bad as I expected them to look on me :)
So far I'm glad I went all metal.

I don't know any other adults with braces either, so your not alone on that one. But hey at least braces will make us look way younger! Good luck with everything. :o

Hello! I'm looking forward to seeing your pics :D how long did your ortho say you'll probably need your braces for? I'm getting mine next month and I've been told I'll need them for about 18 months.

Thanks for the welcome young67 and shayw! :-1

Elpi, I was told 18 months too. Are you looking forward to getting them? I think I was the same as a lot of people on here in that I was nervous but excited before getting them on.
I got engaged in December and I don't want to set a date until I get a bit more into the treatment but I reckon it will be 2010 for the wedding anyway. So I'm trying not to wish the next couple of years away but there's a lot to look forward too :-)o
I will post some photos later tonight :)

OK some photos:

This is my pre braces picture:

And this is just after I got the top braces on:

There is only a day between these photos but the braces photo came out a lot nicer :D
So what they are trying to do for now is bring the eye tooth down. I had the pre molar behind that extracted to make room for my teeth to line up properly.

I'm on day three now and it's going pretty well. I've had a little bit of pain but pain killers do the trick. I thought I would be on a soup diet for a while but I have managed to eat of lot of different things. I can't eat anything that needs a lot of chewing but I was able to manage a mini fry for breakfast this morning :)

Maybe it is easier to adjust because I only have the tops on. By the time the bottoms go on I will be well used to these guys :D

Great pics and wow your braces look pretty with those ligs! I was wondering if I had the confidence to choose coloured ligs straight away but now you've inspired me :D

Yeah I'm definitely looking forward to getting mine put on, the cause of the delay is just cos my ortho is off on a long holiday all around Easter so I'm having to wait until he gets back, grrr

Thanks Elpi :D
I think I'll go for pink the next time.

I love watching peoples progress ... it's amazing really how much teeth can move. I hope you start a progress thread when your treatment starts.

My ortho did a legger for the easter break too. I wanted to get them done before she left because I'm off work myself so thought it would be a good time to break them in :)

Hi Laineyloo,

WOW - can I just say that you have beautifully white, healthy, strong looking teeth! Once those braces work their magic - look out - you're smile is going to knock the socks off everyone you meet!!!

Good luck with everything and keep those pics coming as you notice changes. It's such an exciting feeling waiting and watching for the changes!

Until next time, take care,

Dane
