Candy's straight journey
Well it's been 3 months of deciding and having endless consultations but I've decided to just get plain old braces. My orthodontist opened "THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR.'s box" for me when I first went to see him (he was my second opinion) and I was bomarded with options like surgery and slow expansion. After careful consideration and discussions with numerous family members I have decided that just getting straight teeth is my main concern. I have an overbite and narrow upper jaw which I'm used to having and to be honest, think I'll never really want to change it. I finally called my Orthodontist last week and told him to just fit me with the braces with no funny contraptions or surgery options. My b-day is scheduled for 22 April 2008. I am also actively looking for a new job. I've been working in my current employer for almost 10 years and it's time for a change and something more challenging. I'm 28 years old and also would like to work closer to home. I've been on several interviews but one in particular last week was very promising and had a positive outcome. I know they have made their decision and I am eagerly awaiting that call early this week. If that is the case then I'll be starting a new job with braces. I'd rather get them before I start than take time off to have them fitted. My feelings about getting them on are mixed at the moment. I'm excited because I know the end result will be fantastic but also apprehensive (which I think is normal for adults). I'm sure everything will be fine and I need to lose a few pounds anyway. My goal is to at least fit back into my wedding dress this year.
Hi mamakitty from another sydneysider. I take it you have cats (I do).
I was offered surgery as well, but decided braces was enough for me (was 53 when I started). Am quite happy with my outcome, it ain't Hollywood perfect, but it works for me.
Good luck with the job and braces. The apprehension is quite normal.
Which side of the Harbour are you on?

Snap! I have 2 cats and live on the lower north shore.Hi Lionfish
Yes, I do have cats. 3 cats actually and I'm on the north side of the harbour. What kind of braces did you get fitted with and did you have an expander of any kind?
I had linguals on top and ceramics on the bottom. I didn't have an expander.
Thanks to all for your kind words. Time is really flying by and here we are now in April. This is my month to get my braces, not long now.
Today I got the call! I was offered the job! Yeah......I'm so excited.
So I will be starting my new job with braces but I'll have at least 2 weeks of getting used to them before I start so that is a relief.

Well the countdown begins. 13 sleeps to go until I get those braces on.
I finish up working in my current job on Friday 18th April so I'll have a nice two week break before I start my new job with a brace face.
My husband & I have decided to also take a short break over the long weekend so I hope I'm not in too much pain for the holiday down to the south coast as I want to enjoy it and the food too. Any hints on what foods I should stick to when ordering out at a restaurant and also for breakfast I'm assuming scrambled eggs would be the best option

Great restaurant dishes to order when you have braces:
Risotto
Small pasta - not long like spaghetti or fetuccini - or you could cut it up real small.
Tender tender juicy steak - if its really good quality then cutting it up into tiny pieces will allow you to savour the yummy flavours longer. Avoid if you like your steak cooked longer than medium-rare.
Fillets of fish - they flake easily and shouldn't be tough at all
Ice cream, mousse, pane cotta etc
Avoid:
Burgers, sandwiches etc. WAY too easy to get it all stuck in your teeth. Not attractive!
Crunchy nuts or hard chocolate. As depressing as it sounds - chewing on chocolate with braces isn't is a pleasant experience.
That's all I can think of. If you're real tender I would stick to very very soft foods. Even though you can probably get by actually chewing something - its just uncomfortable and annoying and not fun like eating should be.

B-day tomorrow!
Well, I'm one day away from getting my top teeth braced. I'm trying not to really think about it and today is my first day of a 2 week break before I start my new job on May 5th. Any tips to consider before I go in tomorrow apart from giving my teeth a very good clean
I treated myself to a nice massage this afternoon in preparation for tomorrow b-day. My appointment is at 3pm so I'll be stuffing my face until that time. I'm still not feeling much of any emotion about tomorrow just yet - I would prefer not to get it done but I know the end result will be worth it. After reading many posts on this forum I definitely am more relaxed about the whole event than I would be going in clueless.
