Nickk's brace story.

Hi there, I am new to this forum, and i just joined because I only got my braces today, and I am already starting to feel self-concious about them.

Basically, I have had a "wonky" tooth ever since i was little. It was one of my front teeth, and it looked horrible. I asked my dentist about it when I was like 12, and he told me that the pressure on from my lips would push it into place. But it didn't, so here I am, at the age of 16, with a brace.

It was a very difficult decision for me to make, mainly because all of my friends were just getting their braces off. It seemed like such a small thing for a lot of work, but it always annoyed me. Whenever I looked in photos, i used to hate me smile, because of that one tooth. I'm in college, and I am hoping that no-one will bring it up when they see it for the first time tomorrow. I just want everyone to ignore it, and pretend it isn't there. The brace looks horrible, and it hurts quite a lot right now - but i guess it means that it is working.

I didn't know whether I was allowed to sign up to this site, given that it is for adults, but I decided that I wanted to join to hear success stories to boost my morale!

In the end, I hope it will be worth it. Hopefully, I will update with more pictures soon. :)

FIRST DAY OF BRACES:

I only realised, once the braces were on, how bad my teeth looked. Hopefully, they should start to look better in the next couple of days![/u][/list]

I felt the same thing once I got mine on, because I saw how curved the archwire was. You'll be amazed at how quickly that bugger straightens!

Question: 16 in college? Do you live in the States?

My guess is UK, what they call "college" isn't what we call "college". I belive in the UK you go to grammar school, college, then university.

Hey Nickk, welcome to the board :) I can relate to how you feel. All of my peers were getting them off as I got mine on. Just remember that people are far less concerned with how you look than you are and you should be proud that you're doing something to improve yourself. It'll be worth it in the end. Good luck with everything!

I'm here again, the board didn't work for a little while for me. I was planning to upload a initial brace day, and a week comparison. I shall take another picture for the week time frame tomorrow.

Your second pictures real hazy, are you using the macro focus? From what I can tell so far, however, your teeth are already starting to move. It's smart of you to take pictures weekly. My roommates give me a hard time about it, but I like being able to see how far my teeth have come in just a short amount of time!

At 16, you're younger than most of us here so don't feel bad about having braces now. I wish I had gotten them at 16! How long are you expected to be in braces? I know what you mean about not really realizing what your teeth are like until you get your braces on. Somehow the braces made me go "WHOA, have my teeth really been this crooked all along?!" But before you know it, you will be seeing movement and it's really exciting. Good luck with everything! You joined a great site. :)

Hi Nickk,

Congrats on your bracing.
I think it's nice to have some younger people on the board, after all, no matter how old you are we're all going through the same thing!
Your teeth'll start moving really quickly now.

Yea, I can see movement already, and my tooth feels different went I touch it with my tongue.

I have no idea how long i will have to be in braces, but hopefully not long if it continues to move at this rate!

I am trying to get the pictures of day 1 and week 4 to morph together, and it is taking a little while.

But I am pretty glad I got the braces now, I can really see a difference. As I take the pictures, one of my teeth is hurting (2nd from the left in the photos) which is quite good, because it is that one that needs to move!

That picture will be up in a couple of minutes! :)
