Ellie2009's Braces Journey

#1 Post by Ellie2009 »

After much procrastination, I have finally got my braces on. It's been 24 hours since I had my braces put on and I am coping (just).

I thought I had come to terms with braces. I think I will feel better when my teeth straighten abit more. Then the braces will look ok, instead of a mess of wires etc.

Hope to post pics up soon.

Some info until my Signature kicks in. I am a 27 yo (28 in August) female, who has procrastinated for at least a decade in deciding to get braces.

congrats! i just got my braces put on yesterday (april 30th) in the morning, so i'm about a day and a half in. i'm really glad i found this site so i can follow other peoples' progress who are going through it at the same time as i am. are you planning on putting pics up/giving more detailed descriptions of the things you don't like about your teeth?

good luck..if you're anything like me you've been on an almost liquid diet; can't wait til i can eat normal food/chew again!

So there are many of us beggining our braces story on the same day. Had them on on April 30th as well and this morning the pain is killing me. The almost all fluid diet goes for me too and I am starting to think I will never be able to find my peace again. I hope it will be better next week for all of us.

Yay people who had them on the same day as me :)

Thanks for your responses girls (and againbrace).

Yeh I am going to upload pics now. I only have very shonky mobile phone ones as my camera wasn't charged. You would think that I would think of that beforehand. Will try and get some more clearer ones, but of course they will be from Day 4 or 5.

I must be a sucker for punishment as I had my wisdom teeth out Wednesday last week and scheduled my braces for this week. I just wanted them to get it all out of the way. I figured, why not be in pain continously, as opposed to braces now and wisdom in 6 months time.

So far I was lucky - Most of my swelling went down by the next day and i only had mild pain. Now with braces, i can feel the constant tension and slight pain, but overall I don't feel intense pain unless i accidentally chew or bite down on something.

As for the soft food, being that it's my 2nd week in, I am sorta getting over it. But plus side is I think i have lost 1-2 kgs. Yay, nice diet :)

Ok, i finally took some "proper" pics....Having said that, I have to improve as they are shocking!!!

These pics are from Day 5....

My week soo far:
  • * Went out for dinner on Sunday I was over the mush - so I ordered pasta with calamari. What was I thinking??? Day 3 - The paaiiiiinnnn! I had to cut everything in tiny pieces and even then it was hard. What didn't help was that the pasta was DELICIOUS!

    * I have a couple of food intolerances etc, so normally I have limited food choices. I have found this even harder this week as I have had a small number of soft foods I could eat.

    * I am still finding it hard to chew, especially on my left side. It's like the teeth don't line up at all anymore. Oh wells, I have to be patient.

    * I am not sure if it's because I am coming down with a cold, but I feel like I am constantly thirsty or my mouth is dry. Is this common when wearing braces?

    * Have found it hard to floss as it was super painful. Will keep at it - here's hoping!

    * Had my first bathroom check last nite at a restaurant - was trying to clean some food using the interdental/interproximal brush. As soon as I heard someone coming I stopped. This is going to be hard ehehehe

    * I find that not much food overall has been getting stuck in my teeth; May be due to the fact I'm still having soft food - or my water rinses are getting alot out; However, i find the most common place for my food to get stuck is in the front. That's handy!!

    * My tongue seems to constantly "pushing" teeth etc. Not sure if it will go away soon. Hope not, as I know that's bad in terms of movement.
That's all I can think of now.

i can't believe you were able to go out to a restaurant at all on sunday. my pain hasn't been excruciating but i DEFINITELY was in no position to eat solid foods yet 4 days ago. I can barely manage it now! (then again, i'm a baby)

have you noticed any movement going on yet?

ahahaha pinkpixie...I most likely made a newbie mistake...

Overall the pain hasn't been that bad...just uncomfortable...but the chewing definitely hurt! And today i tried eating a semi soft cookie, and broke it into tiny pieces...in the end i just had to sorta suck on each piece until it melted in my mouth..couldn't really chew....

I figured out why the left hand side has been an issue...the bracket on the bottom canine (i think it's that one) makes contact with the top canine...Hence th shooting pain when it touches...So now I have to be extra careful that i don't bite down too hard, etc and chip my tooth...

As for movement, I am kinda spewing I didn't get proper day 1 pics...From what I can tell, only minimal movement, if any on the bottom front teeth.

Hmm what an interesting few month it has been. Overall I have little or no pain. Even when I have my adjustments, the pain is confined to the time he is removing the bands etc. I am only slightly tender for maybe a day or 2. So far it has been ok.

Just impatient to get them off now :P

Wow, when I look back to my photo's from two years ago, I realise what progress I have made. At this stage I should only have about a month left until my braces come off. I can't wait! +\+
