hello, hello.
i guess i'll start off with a little intro, eh?
i'm female. i'm nineteen [and a half, i guess.]
i'm a college student.
i enjoy long walks on the beach....

okay, enough with that.
on to mi situación..

i've always had bad teeth. when i was younger i sucked my thumb, and wee, got bucked teeth for that. and the bad genetics didn't help me either. so... then i knocked my two front teeth out on monkey bars when i was eight or so, and the new ones came in all crooked. hooray.

on top of the overbite, i also have major crowding in the lowers. and when i was younger, my 'fang' teeth.. what do you call those? i have no clue o_o... anyway those were way high in my gums.

so when i was twelve i got braced. by this really crappy orthondist. i had them til i was fourteen... I think? no, maybe i was fifteen. either way, i was supposed to have them for longer but the prick took them off early. he even ADMITTED he took them off early, dude, whatev.

they looked good when he took them off, they looked really good. straight... but i still had a slight overbite. because he took them off early.
then the retainer... god, that was a huge deal. it didn't even fit me!

well now i'm nineteen and my teeth have shifted back. they're not too terrible. but they're bad.

in a week and a few days, Oct 26, i'm getting braced for a 2nd time. i'm getting iBraces (behind the teeth) on my upper arch and normal braces on my lower arch. estimated time = 18 months.

he's also goin to do some enamel stripping of my two front teeth which is basically shaving off part of my tooth. he doesn't like how wide my two front teeth are, and quite frankly, neither do i.

anyway, i know it's over a week away but i thought i'd post my before pics.. try not to cringe too much! D:

Hi Neon,

Thanks for posting on my story. All the best for next week - I'm sure you won't regret it. Keep posting, I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.

Don't worry about the lisping, not everyone gets one - even if you do, it's a bit of a pain at first but soon gets better - particularly if you talk a lot! :)

Good Luck for your 'Brace Day'!

Hi Neon,

Good luck for today!!!!

The sooner you get those braces on the better - there is absolutely nothing to worry about. I think I'm probably a few hours ahead of you time wise (it's 9.25am as I write), so I'm guessing it's the middle of the night for you now! You'll be so relieved once it's done.

I didn't lisp at all with the lower lingual braces, only when the uppers were added, so it may be you won't even have a problem with just the uppers. It could be the lack of space for my tongue which caused the problem for me when the upers were added. Anyway, the lisp was only very mild - just felt huge to me. Nobody except my husband and sister (she's had braces so guessed when she heard my speech) even know I have them, so the lisp couldn't have been that noticable. If you do lisp, just keep talking - have a really long phone call to a friend - and you'll find you adapt to the brace by the hour and things will improve - also drink lots of water.

I think you'll be absolutely fine, particularly as you've had braces before, you'll adapt really quickly. Your teeth are a lovely shape and I'm sure they will begin to look fantastic very quickly, making it all worthwhile.

I can't wait to hear how you get on, I'll look out for your news later!!!

Good luck :-)o
