Me and my Wonky Gob

I am 38 years old and I'm having orthodontic work done in preparation for upper and lower jaw surgery to correct a crossbite and underbite. I won't bother going into too much background info but basically I had jaw pain and wonky teeth and the orthodontics and surgery combo are the answer!

Have had braces for 12 weeks now and I had my 2nd adjustment yesterday. Things are moving along nicely and I'm feeling happy enough about the whole situation now! That wasn't the case for the first month where I really struggled with every element of the whole experience, but these days it's all pretty 'meh'

Originally the ortho predicted 18m pre op and 6m post but yesterday he agreed that the top teeth are just about in position already after 12 weeks (YAY!) and he even put in a nice tight square wire which he said was the penultimate wire he'd use for my top teeth. Unfortunately my bottom teeth are still bad, and in fact 2 of my teeth aren't even bracketed yet as they are so twisted. So although the ortho hopes it will be less than 18m before op it all depends on those pesky bottom teeth.

Here are some nice before pictures:

Amazing how much your top teeth have moved! Checked out your BLOG- you are very pretty and when your ortho treatment is completed, stunning is a word that comes to mind. Good luck on your journey, hopefully it will be an easy one and the surgery will go smoothly.

Look forward to your future posts.

Thanks :)

Broken Molar Band

I had to have a broken molar band fixed this week!

My crossbite has caused my bottom molars on my right to hit the tubes on the top right molar band since day one, and I guess over time it had weakened the band.

The Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead has a brilliant Ortho department, and I was given an emergency appointment for the following day, was in and out within in 10 mins! Amazing :)

OMG...I haven't even read your full story yet...but I just had to drop you a note saying I LOVE your pic you have next to your name. My 2yr old loves Finding Nemo and for the last 2 months I've been telling everyone in the house "she is exactly what I'm going to look like!!!!!!" Cute. Great choice.....I too...am a Dory fan. :pinkbraces:

Oh my, looking at my photos from my last post Ican suddenly see how far I've come!

I'm still braced up, surgery hopefully later in year, just waiting on a tiny 0.6mm gap to close before I get my surgery consultation.

My teeth are lovely and straight, but, as I had been warned at my initial ortho consul tation, my underbite has been made much more pronounced in prep for surgery. My self confidence is on the floor as a result.

Oh well, I'm on the home straight! Will post pictures when I get round to it, here's one while you're waiting....
