Lu Lu's Story

Hi Guys

Well my journey is about to begin & i'm very scared now & starting to have doubts. I know it will be worth it in the end or at least I hope so!!!! :?

I'll start from the beginning.

I'm 23 years old & live in the Uk. I have overcowding which is far worse on the lower jaw. I was meant to have braces as a teenager but stupidly backed out of it after having my moulds taken (BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE)

I had my 2 upper wisdom teeth out back in June. Having these out made me see about getting braces as I knew in order to have them i'd need them out as they were growing outwards & on top of my other teeth, so when my dentist suggested they come out I thought maybe now's the time to see about braces. My bottom wisdom teeth haven't come through yet but there is no room. (I'm hoping they don't come through once i've got some space & got beautiful nashers & mess everything up) :?

So here I am just about to start my journey a good 10 years later on.
I'm having lingual braces on upper's & ceramic braces on lower's.

I am due to have 4 extractions - all 4 first premolar's & i'm really worried.

I'm having my first bottom premolar out on Weds & my second bottom first premolar out a week later (Don't see why they can't just do them both in the same go) and then the week after my bottom ceramic brace will be fitted.

Not having my upper premolar's out until my lingual brace is fitted  so about 4 more weeks!!

Really NOT happy about these extractions because i'm going to a wedding next weekend meaning i'm going to have 2 great big holes showing for all to see. NOT HAPPY!!!!!! They couldn't get me in any closer to my brace fitting so I guess I should be thankful they managed to get me in rather than be fully booked & have to put my brace day off a bit longer!!

I will post some before pics if I pluck up the courage

Wish me Luck guys!!!!!

Good luck. I hated getting extractions too. I'm getting my top brace on in 2 days so hopefully I'll lose the gaps that I've had for nearly five months. It's weird they aren't doing both of your extractions in the same appointment. They pulled both of mine out in one appointment.

Hope you post some before pics. We're all in the same boat here and it's great to compare photos once your teeth start moving :P Good luck for brace day, you won't regret it once your new smile starts taking shape :D

Thanks for stopping by Jay :D

I know I thought they would do them both at the same time, I did ask why they weren't & she said it was because they are the bottom teeth. I think she said something about my mouth being numb or inflammed can't remember lol :? It's a right inconvience though.

I hope they take the top 2 out at the same time.

I can't wait until I start to see my teeth moving & watching them straighten up. Hope I don't have to wait long until I see movement.

Btw I stopped by and read your story - haven't you got nice pretty teeth, your smile will be amazing!!

I'll post pics in a couple of weeks x

good luck :) you wont regret it for sure
i had 4 extraction to and time passed so quick :D
they did all 4 of mine one at a time, but when they took out my second upper they fitted my brace in the same session.. for my lowers they first fitted my braces and after 2 weeks did the extractions, and they were so easy to do, cause my molars have been shaken by braces meantime..

be brave it all ends so quick :D

and post pictures, you will appreciate them later... i now come back to see my first pics on the website and cant believe that those teeth were mine :D

Well having my first premolar out tonight guys & i'm really nervous!! :?

Hope i'm not in too much pain after & I don't hear it crack

I'm going to be sad I think to see 1 of my healthy teeth go - I just hope the end result will be worth it in the end after loosing 4 healthy teeth

Thanks Chrystal :) At least I know i'm on my way to getting straight teeth I guess. I wanted the ball to start rolling & now it's finally starting to happen. Only 2 weeks today until I have my ceramic brace fitted on my lowers. Can't believe how quickly it's coming round - hope it goes this fast once they're on

I see you've had your final consultation now & looks like you've made a decision to go with 1 of the orthos.

Not long until you're on your way now either :D

xx

Well I've lived to tell the tale.

They ended up taking both lowers out in the end at the same time!
I'm very greatful. Dentist told me if it had been the tooth behind then I would have had to have them done seperate, not sure why.

Feeling very sore & struggling to eat because of how close they are to the front of my mouth (didn't struggle with my wisdom teeth - ate a chicken burger & chips after that, but last night was soup lol)

I couldn't stop the bleeding for a good few hours & the things they gave me take home to bite down on to form them to clot were no good. they were filled with blood withing 1/2 hour & had to throw them away ERRRRRR!!

The experience wasn't too bad overall. Didn't like my mouth being numbed. That was a first. Felt like the elephant man. My lip felt huge (although it wasn't) & didn't like the feeling of him pulling my teeth & although I couldn't feel pain I could feel it coming loose & it wasn't pleasant. Just got the 2 uppers to do now & then that's it hopefully. Not sure when I'm having those done. Got to wait until i've had my lingual brace fitted first. Guess the extractions are the worst part. I'm hoping!!

Next step ceramic brace fitted in just under 2 weeks

Over & out for now :) x

Right i've finally got the courage to post some before brace pics.

From the pics i've seen so far on this site I have far worse teeth than any i've seen yet

Gosh I have ugly teeth / smile. Cannot wait to see the end result.

my bottom teeth look stained. Because of the position of my teeth & the way the gum is it's hard to get the toothbrush to clean the bottom as my teeth go inwards & my gum sticks out (if that makes sense)

not to worry
check my story i got pics too :)

firts it will get worst..with the wire..this getting the brush in all spaces..but then...oh...it's a joy...
my Ortho kept asking me to try doing a better job with my brush, and even put that red stuff on my teeth to colour plakue, and show me how bad it is...

and she wouldnt understand that i just couldnt reach... but now...its really good and my gums feel the difference, and my Ortho is now happy, even mentioned that i've come a long way
so dont worry

Ionika - thanks for the comments.

I've had a look at your story & your teeth look quite similar to mine.
how long have they estimated treatment for you?

mine is 18-24 months.

Cannot wait until I start to see some changes. You know it's all worth it then.

At the moment sitting here with big sore holes & no brace you kind of think there's no going back now & I hope it's going to be worth it

Glad you were finally brave enough to post some pics. I don't know what you are talking about, you have nowhere near the worst teeth on this site. Your teeth at the top are a really nice shape. You can tell they'll look amazing once you get your brace on and everything starts to get in line. It'll be great to watch your lowers line up...i was fascinated by mine...I almost wish they'd been more crooked as I loved watching them (I have no life, I know  )

Jay- thanks for the kind remarks but I think you're being polite lol :-)
My teeth are un even & doubt they'll look amazing. Hope so though. I have a chip on the 1 & I hate it.

It will be interesting to see the lower 1's move into place.

Talking of lower teeth my extractions are giving me some right jip.

In a lot of pain & finding it hard to eat anything as everything catches the holes :-(

Hopefully they'll hurry up & heal x
