Lau's Story

Hi everyone-
finally got around to posting my story and some pix.

So why the braces at 37? well, why not? In my teens I had the removable retainer, which I never wore and my teeth kept changing, every time I would remember to wear it, it wouldn't fit anymore. In my 20s i was dating and concentrating on my career so braces were out of the question. when i was 30 I got married and moved abroad so it wasn't good timing. Then mid 30s my boy was born- so now its the best time for me. Also one incisor, after the pregnancy, moved behind a front tooth, so that was what prompted me to finally do it.

The ortho said 18 months, i am making sure i do everything right and will do this in record time or at least 12 to 15 months, which sounds way better. I am VERY impatient!! this is a big commitment.

It's been a month & a half and its been much easier than expected. The braces didn't really bother me, had one adjustment at 4 weeks (one bracket became unattached) but it didn't hurt at all. Only took 2 advil when they put the spacers the week before the braces were put on.

I am wearing elastics on both sides 24/7 I even eat with them as I read (somewhere) that the exercise of eating helps the bite.

I have seen movement on the bottom more than anything- i have to go back in 11 days so hopefully I will have more to report soon.

Thanks! Yeah, I didn't think that I would be seeing progress like that so soon. It really is a confidence booster. :)

Hi readers- thank you for following my progress. I feel like a senior brace wearer reporting! LOL

Progress: So today was my 2nd adjustment and got a nice surprise: now i have brackets in ALL my teeth not just the 6 top/6 bottom. I graduated to a FULL METALL MOUTH!
I guess i am lucky everything is moving along. its been less than 2 months and i already had 2 adjustments.

The other nice thing was that now i have 2 teeth added to the same archwire that were previously separate. that is GREAT news to me!
However, a molar or premolar (new braced tooth) is not on the same archwire but it seems like we are making progress- it also feels like it, it hurts!! i am going to take Tylenol.

Mood: I have a trip this week with face to face meetings and i need to feel at my best, pump up my smile self esteem. Be Strong, as my Spinning teacher would say. Seems foolish, but if I write it and read it, I will do it.

I will post progress pics upon my return- I will probably check the forum too, i cannot stay away

Third adjustment today went OK.
 switched my top archwire from .016 to a .020 :jump:
 but left my bottoms the same as one tooth still needs to move
 since my bite was becoming class III (underbite) now i need to wear my elastics in a V shape (opposite as i have been doing)

I need to return in 6 weeks (the longest time since I got my braces) so it is making me a little crazy thinking about the time, I want to have perfect teeth NOW :-+

Progress pics coming soon...

wish i had taken a photo of my bite because last week (when the pic was taken) i had a little underbite that now i am correcting with a V shaped configuration of elastics.
