I'm getting braces on the 10th april and I'm so stuck on choosing which ones to get and I'm wondering if anyone could help! I've got the choice of metal or clear (I think ceramic but not sure) and I just don't know which ones would look better. I'm leaning towards clear because even though they are more expenisve I just think they will make me look a bit less of a brace face and so I don't mind paying extra. Also my orthodontist said they would take longer than metal but I'm thinking if they do look better is it worth having them? However I'm worried they might look weird as some people have said they look like 'lumps' on teeth. But I've seen a few people with clear on this forum that look really good so I really don't know what to do!

Can't really help you as I never got to make the choice. It's all metal for me so I just try and focus on the fact that it should hopefully speed up the process but can't help checking pictures on the board and thinking some look really good (as in you don't see them as much).

yeah thats what i keep thinking, maybe i should get metal to get them off as soon as possible, and i know people with metal braces that look fine and they suit them, its just that i've got the choice so its making me consider! but thankyou for the reply anyway, i will have a look at your braces when you put photos up!

i chose to pay extra for ceramics as i was abit self conscious about getting metal at 32 years old. if i was alot younger though, i might have been more open to metal. i think metal looks really cute btw

are you glad you went with ceramics? did you have top and bottom?

yes, i am very happy with the ceramics. i do have them both top and bottom. the bottom was fitted on 07th jan and the top on 17th march. there are some pics in story "kelly b's story (belatedly)". pls have a look.

As the previous poster mentioned the 7 post rule applies to seeing images on the board as well as posting.

I debated ceramic as well, however I didn't think the price increase was enough for vanity So its all metal for me. Really I don't think they look too bad, and I haven't had any negative remarks. In fact my 7 year old thinks they are cute LOL!

I think really its up to you. If you would be very self conscious with metal go with ceramic. Your ortho would tell you if he recomended metal for you (as far as your treatment plan is concerned)

I wasn't given an option of ceramics. My ortho believes that metal works better and since I have a tooth that needs to be pulled a significant distance metal would be the way to go since it is stronger.

i think i was given the choice because my teeth arent that bad just my bottom ones are quite crowded and i'm getting an extraction, but thankyou everyone for your help! i'll have a look at photos and stories and see if i can reach a decision
