Tops on first

#1 Post by Bostin »

My ortho stated he will be bracing my tops first and then my bottoms a month or two later. Is this how you had your braces put on?

I had tops and bottom placed at one go.

But don't worry. I'vve read a lot of post on here were people get their lowers or uppers placed half way through treatment.

It all depends on ur issues and how the ortho plans to deal with them

Hey Bostin,

I only have top braces at the moment. A lot of times the Orthodontists will only place top brackets if you have an overbite, which I do and you may. Or sometimes they'll just place the tops if your upper arch is worse than your lower arch. It's a pretty normal thing.

Best of luck

I got my uppers on first. My lowers won't go on until my upper arch is developed to a certain point. I now have 3 lower brackets that I'm using for elastics to erupt molars. I'll probably be about 11 months into my treatment before my lowers go on. :)

Hi Bostin

I have had uppers braced only at the moment, I am 13 weeks into my treatment. I have an overbite and my ortho explained the lowers would be braced when I had sufficient room. My upper teeth flared inwards so we are making them flare out meaning once the uppers wouldn't bump into the lower brace I'll be braced there.

Hey Bostin, I had my uppers put on first. I too have an overbite and my ortho said it would be a month or two before the bottoms go on. I need to have 2 teeth pulled. One on top and one on the bottom and that will happen before the bottoms are put on.

I had lowers 6 weeks before the uppers too! In my case it was because they were waiting to consult with restorative dentistry about whether to leave my canines in the lateral postion and get canine implants or to pull them all the way back and get implants for the laterals...
