My Braces Story
I hope that I am posting this correctly. I just go braces last week, March 25, 2013. I am hoping to have my open bite closed. I've had it since I was a child. I have a tongue thrust, which may have caused the issue. I have opted out of surgery. I will not do extractions even if it ends up being recommended. I believe my ortho may want me to get IPR done in the future if it is necessary. I'm not sure if I will do it. I'm very obsessive about my body, especially my teeth. I never HATED my teeth, I just didn't like my open bite and I've always hoped to make my smile better. Additionally, it's embarrassing to eat pizza, sandwich, etc, when you're teeth don't meet in the front. I'm sure that anyone with an open bite can relate. My next appointment is May 6th. I'm hoping to see changes after that appointment. I haven't seen much difference besides my bite getting worse (in my opinion). I feel like my open bite got bigger once the ortho put in 8 spacers. I'm hoping for improvements soon. I will post photos in the near future. Once I figure out how to do it.
Re: My Braces Story
Hi and welcome to the board and braces You need 7 posts in order to post a photo, after that just upload to photobucket or something and post the image link
Bites have a tendency to get worse before they get better, as do gaps and teeth in general once braces are on. I have a gap in my bottom centre which is almost double what it was when I began, but we're working on bringing it in properly now. Hang in there, changes will happen

Welcome to this forum! I wish you very good luck on your journey to get your open bite fixed!
As you already know from another thread, I also have an open bite and also try to fix or at least improve it with braces alone. I hope it works!
And it is true, things first get worse before they get better. My bite also got worse with the braces on, see the link below for my pictures with and without braces:

But hopefully we both see improvement soon.
I am looking forward to hearing how jour journey is going and I wish you all the very best.
Please keep us updated!
Greetings from Anna

Re: My Braces Story
Should I keep posting under this same thread to keep my braces story going, or am I supposed to start a new thread?
When I first got braces, my teeth were sore, but I had absolutely no pain. But today, I have experienced pain, not enough to take a pain reliever, just enough to notice. The funny thing is my pain is only located on one tooth. How weird is that.
I have also noticed that when I floss between two of my teeth, I start to notice a little space, as though black triangles are forming. But, it's probably in my head since I've read so much about. I know for certain that I can't stop flossing because I don't want to end up with gum disease.
How often do you floss? I floss at least once a day. And if I eat something like shredded beef, shrimp, etc., then I floss because I feel like it's more likely to get stuck in between my teeth.
I probably brush no less than 4 times a day. What about you? Am I over doing it?

Re: My Braces Story
I've only had my braces for 3 weeks and I was just thinking the other day too how weird it is that one day, randomly, a tooth will start hurting. Just sorta out of the blue.
I only floss at night, but I do have a Waterpik that I use ALOT! Mostly just to get stuff out of my braces and teeth. And I was told I only needed to brush 2 times a day. But it seems like everyone else on here brush a million times a day so I decided I would do it 3 times a day. Morning right after breakfast, right after lunch and before I go to bed. Who knows what you are SUPPOSED to do.

Welcome! I also have an open bite and tongue thrust so I know how you feel. I have a thread around here with a couple of pictures, I actually need to take some more. I definitely think my open bite got worse before better, it's just now starting to improve. I'm excited to share I your journey

Re: My Braces Story
joye30- Thank you I was able to find some of your older pictures. Do you have updated photos? I would love to see how your teeth have progressed thus far. Also, have you had to do extractions, or is everything working out without them?
beckyboo0205- I'm glad I'm not the only one who has dealt with this randomness. I am going to try to brush less because I don't want to do more harm to my teeth rather than good.
