Adult braces while using Acceledent

#1 Post by Kevinr144 »

Hello all, I'm a 28 year old male with traditional braces and using Acceledent. (Google it if you're not familiar with it...it's pretty neat)

I'm almost 3 months into my treatment and I've seen dramatic changes already.

This is my (just under) 3 month progress picture. Bottom picture is, of course day 1. Top pic is most recent (again, just shy of 3 months)

Is this average progress for an adult?

Edit: My ligatures stained just 1 week after they were changed. I blame it on my mountain dew addiction.

Great progress and those braces are cool. MD is also my beverage of choice!

I am a 28 y/o female and had very similar movement progression in a 3 month timeframe WITHOUT Acceledent.
In my opinion, my teeth moved faster than the norm for an adult in treatment and my ortho was impressed as well. You progress so far is amazing!! How much time is your ortho anticipating being shaved off with the Acceledent use?
I was interested in trying that for my treatment but couldn't afford it after forking out $7500 for braces and $400 for extractions!

My ortho hasn't been using the acceledent in his office very long but he said it could cut treatment time in half (which I'm skeptical about) He initially estimated 2 years so I doubt I'll get away with 1 year. I'd be happy with a year and a half... as long as they're off before my 30th bday in November, 2015.

I go for my 2nd adjustment Tuesday. At my last adjustment, they put a power chain on the lower fronts which closed the slight gaps in the front but now I have gaps on both sides of the front 4 that were chained. Do you think they'll chain the entire bottom?

The top is looking good except the front 2 teeth now. They were previously angled out away from each other but now they went past the point of being straight and angled in towards each other. I'm hoping they will take the brackets off and readjust them so they go back out and are straight again.

Also, I'm hoping they take the glue bite tabs off my molars so I can finally close my jaw all the way. My brackets arent in danger of being hit now.

I guess my thinking was a bit ambitious. All they did was change my top wire to a stiff stainless wire. My bottom wasn't ready for the same wire because one tooth was slightly out place still. They did extend the power chain on the bottom from the front 4 to the front 6 to bring them all together.

The ortho didn't want to remove the build ups on my molars yet. He said something about needing the flat surfaces to broaden my arch. But hopefully they'll be gone next visit in 8 weeks.

I hadn't taken any upper arch pictures so I decided to try it today and I gotta say, I'm pleasantly surprised how much the arch has widened in 4 months.

It has widened ALOT! That was probably the best part of my treatment. Even though I had 4 teeth pulled to make room for the crowding I had, I have so much more tongue space now. It feels nice not having to constantly find a place for my tongue.

Your progress is so impressive! I'm going to be using Acceledent, too, and am excited to possibly not have to do 26 months of braces!

What is your bite like? Do you currently have an edge to edge bite? Will they be pulling your bottom jaw/teeth back at all? Just curious because your bottom teeth (and their position to top teeth) look similar to mine and am wondering what your ortho is planning.

My ortho doesn't really tell me what he's treating so I honestly don't know what you'd call my bite. I think I have a slight crossbite.

Today is officially month 5. Progress has slowed and I feel like there are a couple teeth in particular that should have moved into line by now but refuse to move at all in the past couple months. My arch continues to widen it seems. I have a cleaning scheduled this week and an adjustment next week. I'm hoping the ortho takes pictures at this next adjustment so I can have good, clear pictures of my arches for comparison.

My open bite may appear to be slightly worse than it really is because I have build ups on my molars. But they're mostly grinded down after 5 months so I really don't know how much they're holding my bite open right now. I hope to get them removed next week so I can tell.
