Flute Failing because of Braces!!

Hiya!

To any fellow flute SPAMMERS LIKE ME (hey!) I hope you could help me out, I'm in a bit of a pickle... (lol who says that, just me?)

I just got my bottom brace fitted last week, having had my top one for roughly six months. I have my grade 4 flute exam coming up in 2 weeks, and after practicing I have found because of my brace I can't make a good sound come out of my flute, it goes all muffled and the sounds won't come out right, their all distorted.
I've tried jaw excersizes, breathing techniques, all of that, but I don't really find its helping, and with my exam right round the corner I thought it was time to ring the alarm bell!

Thanks, any tips would be much much appreciated! :D

I recently got my braces put on at the beginning of the school year and it took some getting used to. What I had to was constantly remind myself that my braces have to be covered. You have to curl your lip over your braces to get a good sound. It will be painful while your getting used to it and your cheeks will be sore. Very sore. I hope this helped. :D

Would a plastic cover for your braces help? I know I've seen them for sale online. It's like some kind of mouth guard for musicians. I played the flute in school but just got braces as an adult (and don't play the flute currently) so unfortunately I can't help with personal experience. But you might want to check out that brace cover
