Second time getting braces at 38!

Hi!
I got my braces on almost 4 months ago and I just came across this site! I had braces as a teen, but my dad lost his job and we couldn't afford to keep them for the entire time so they were removed a year too soon. My teeth were perfectly straight when they came off, but since we couldn't afford a retainer either, they went back to being crooked. It wasn't a huge deal to me, but now I'm 38 years old and my gums are receding in the area where my teeth are pushed out. So it was recommended that I get braces to straighten my teeth, and then have gum surgery. Yay me, right?
Anyway, my ortho told me I'm not a candidate for Invisilign, so he suggested I get clear ceramic. So in April, I got the top braces on, but he said that he wanted my top teeth to move up before he put my bottom braces on. He said my teeth would knock the brackets if he put them on at the same time. It tool about 4 months for me to get the bottom braces on. Just got them 2 days ago!
I gotta say, I'm not a fan of the ceramic braces at all. I'm wishing I got the metal instead. The ceramic braces feel so much bigger. They trap food like it's there job! Plus the whole point of the clear is to be less noticeable. But less noticeable bands stain so bad. My ortho suggested I get the Pearl colored bands the 1st time. They were fine for the 1st 2 weeks, then they become yellow and gross. Then at week 4, I made the mistake of eating a hotdog with mustard. Huge mistake! I'm not gonna walk around looking like I don't brush my teeth. So the next visit I went with a dark pink. Which defeats the purpose of having clear braces.
The dark color was kinda cute at first, but I got tired of it fast. So this last appointment, I got a light pink. It is less noticeable, and hopefully it doesn't stain. If my ortho had told that the clear bands stain, I wouldn't have chosen the ceramic.
So now I'll be wearing these until Jan. 2018. I plan on trying lots of different colors to see which ones work the best. I'll post pics if I can figure out how:)
