Rockexrolloh's Story..

#1 Post by rockexrolloh »

Hey guys. I probably won't get my braces until end of May/ early June. I'm not sure yet. But I figured I'd go ahead and start my story.
I'm only 18 but when I was younger my parents couldn't afford to get me braces. My mom had to get them when I was around 10 and they couldn't afford to get them for both of us. Now they are both doing pretty well and offered to pay for my braces.
I have only had my first consultation but will be getting my molds done on April 19th.
Initially, I didn't think my teeth were too bad except the gap in the front. The ortho told me that besides the gap, I have a slight overbite and my alignment is off. He also said that my top teeth aren't wide enough to match with my bottom teeth. They may have to shave my bottom teeth down a bit.
My estimated treatment time will be 16 months with Insignia braces. I wish I had more information on the Insignia braces but all I know is that they're specially designed for my teeth and will shorten treatment time. My ortho uses them on most of his patients, so he has a pretty good idea of what he's doing.
I'll be getting clear on top and metal on bottom. My first dentist appointment in 4 years will be April 12th. I know, four years is ridiculous! But like I said, my parents couldn't really afford it but now my mom has dental insurance, which I'm covered under.
Then I will get my molds done and have to wait about 5 weeks to get my brackets and wires back from the Ormco company, which makes the Insignia braces. I don't think I can wait that long!! I'm just too excited.

Anyways, I'll post some pictures of my teeth now. I can't believe I'm going to show them on the internet. It's so embarassing. I have always been EXTREMELY self-concious about my teeth. I always make sure to cover my mouth if I laugh. And you will not find one picture with me showing my teeth. I'm probably so self-concious because of some of the cruel things people have said about my teeth.
For instance, at my Dad's wedding my brother's friend told me that when I talk, he wasn't sure if he should be listening or getting ready to kick a field goal. Needless to say, I had to leave my Dad's wedding early because I was so upset and spent most of the night crying.
People should really think before they say things. Anyway...

Here's the top pre-braces

Man, pictures really do make my teeth look 100x worse than they are. Oh well.
As soon as I have my dentist appointment and my molds done, I will update again. I'm so excited to be getting braces and to have found this site!

Good job on getting braces, they will make your smile look 100 percent better. Four years isn't really a long way to go. If you ask me, I had mine on for six, just because my orthodontist was screwed up. He said I only would have them on for two, but then we got fed up with him and just told him to take them off, my teeth were already straight enough as it is. But now they moved and are all messed up again (not badly) but yeah. They will move quickly for you if you do everything he says. Nice before pics, looking forward to seeing how your teeth progress, I like watching everyone's progress, it's exciting to watch how quickly everything moves in just a weeks or days time.

Hey Rich, thanks for the encouragement. I will definitely keep everyone posted. But my treatment time should only be around 16 months.

Your very welcome. If you have any questions or comments, you can ask me, feel free. I am a bit of a dental-buff myself. I like learning about things like that, as well as anything to do with medical and diseases. I wish I could become a dentist or an orthodontist but sadly I am blind in my right eye. Sixteen months, wow that isn't long at all. BTW I was curious, what kind of music are you into? I am into industrial, synthpop, ebm, metal.

Hope your day is well.

I haven't posted at all on here since I've gotten my braces on. At first I wondered why in the world I wanted braces. They were so painful and felt awkward in my mouth. I've gotten use to them now and am so glad that I went through with it!
I had my first adjustment yesterday. They didn't really do anything but change my wire ties and ligs; not sure why. They are going to change my wire next adjusment.
I had already had to go in 5 times before my adjusment; three times for a broken wire tie and twice for loose brackets. And I have yet another loose bracket that I have to go in for tomorrow!
Oh the joys of braces.
Anyways, here are some pics.

I know they're pretty much of the same view but it's hard to get good pics with my camera.
The gap between my front teeth is coming together nicely but now I have a huge gap on the left side of my front tooth. It's so irritating!!! I want all of these gaps to go!

Update!

#8 Post by rockexrolloh »

Hey guys. I haven't posted on here for quite a while now. School and work have taken up my whole life.
But I wanted to update you all on my progress.

Here is my before :

[i cannot believe how big my gap was!]

and here I am 5 months later :

please don't pay attention the the color of my teeth. I just got done eating soup!
My gaps are pretty much closed except for one tiny one but I will be getting powerchains at my next adjustment to take care of that. You can see the elastic that they have wrapped around my teeth to help close the gaps. I love it! They always give me a new elastic at my adjustments and I love the pressure it puts on my teeth. I know they're working!

Also, I had been getting wire ties to match my clear brackets but I found that the color of the ties would wear off in only a few weeks and I would end up with regular silver ties. So I asked for ligs at my last visit and the assistant suggested the color in the pics. I don't like it. It makes my teeth look dingy and yellow.
I'm not sure what color to ask for next time because I drink lots of tea and soda and don't want them to stain. Any tips would be great.
I'm also wondering what color for my powerchain.

And I just wanted to share with you guys how much I adore my braces! I was so nervous about getting them on but now I love them. I'm not afraid to smile anymore. In fact, I love for people to see my braces. Crazy, huh?

So there you have it! That's my update!
