Overcorrection?

#1 Post by boaster »

My ortho wants me to wear two extra trays once my teeth are in the perfect spot from invisalign. He says this "overcorrection" is needed because once I stop invisalign my teeth will start to move back into their old position. I'm not quite sure I understand this--can't I just wear my third to last aligners every night for a year or so as some sort of retainer?

My ortho said the same thing to me! But I haven't even recieved my first set aligners for another 3 weeks yet! She did say that she wanted to make sure that my teeth had moved a bit too much in the end, because the teeth then would be perfect in the end. Versus that last aligner being "perfect" but then the teeth wouldn't end up as perfect for some reason, since they probably move back 1 mm or something?! Make sense?? It actually does to me! And I think it's great that the orthos want to be that perfect when it comes to dealing with our teeth! Makes me feel like they know what they're doing!
