TERRIFIED about "bumps" on teeth PLEASE HELP!!!
I just went to my ortho yesterday and saw the 3D of my teeth. At first I was pretty exited about it, but then I found out I'll have to have those button bump thingies on 8 teeth. One front tooth also on the 2 teeth next to it, but only on one side of the mouth. Also 5 on bottom teeth but that's no concern.
I'm terrified however about the 3 on my 3 front teeth on the right side in my mouth, because, I'm only doing invisalign because I heard it should be invisible. Otherwise I would NEVER have corrected my teeth! I'm so concerned about my look and what people think of me with all this weird stuff in my mouth. The ortho even started saying I might need rubberbands too, to pull some teeth down(on front tooth as well), did anyone ever have that?? How was it? At this time I was freaking out in the office, and the ortho immedeately said "Ok, we can talk about that later"!
Please help with any advise because I'm freaking out here!!!! My boyfrind thinks it's hillarious that I'm so selfcontious and makes terrible jokes which scares me even more. Of course he has perfect teeth, without ever having had braces!
How notisable is it gonna be?? Can I do something to make it less notisable? How far away do I have to stand so people wont see it with those bump thingies on the front teeth? I'm already getting cold feet and I couldn't even sleep last night because I'm so scared what I'm going to look like wiht all that plastic and bumps in my mouth. I'm considering dying my hair some crazy color or get a perm, so people would focus on my hair and not my teeth. Any advise? PLEASE HELP!!!

From my experience of only having my lowers treated (on tray 4 of 24), the bumps are really not noticable on my front lower teeth (i have two bumps). My lower teeth are noticable when i speak so i was a bit paranoid in the beginning but no one has noticfed anything. In total i have 6 bumps, two round ones on each side of my mouth and two rectangle bumps on two front teeth. The front teeth rectangle bumps really are not noticable at all. I do try and follow the golden rule of keeping 2 foot distance whilst talking with people although i must admit i am now quite used to them, i actually forget im wearing them and just dont expect people to notice any more.
Keep postive, the hardest past was deciding to go with invisalign in teh first place but now i'm really pleased i did.

can`t help u with the bumps mine are not on the front but im interested about the elastics how do they work when wearing trays i just can`t get my head around the concept, the reason i ask is some of my molars have tipped and wonder if elastics can help i mentioned it to my ortho but for some reason she just likes to concentrate on the present rather than the future it would be good if u could ask on my behalf much appreciated, 1 last thing the golden rule about standing a certain distance it true just stand in a mirror and judge what is a safe distance

Diehard, I have no idea how the elasticks would work because I guess I looked really strange and uncomfortable and started freaking out when my ortho started talking about it! I think however, that she meant AFTER I was done with invisalign because I need some teeth pulled down and she's not sure if invisalign is going to be able to do that alone. I will try to remember to ask her on my next appointment in 3-4 weeks. That's when my trays will come in as well!
I know I'll be spending a lot og hours in front of the mirror figuring out how to smile or not to smile at all:lol:

Thanks for that Kris! Wow I can't believe there's already a reply that's great!
I like that you say they are not that visible, but if I smile, you would immedeately be able to tell there's something sticking out from my front teeth when you see me from the side, right?
I guess you're right about the deciding part! I just hope it's not as bad as I imagine! I'm probably gonna stay scared until I see the real thing when I go back to my ortho in 3-4 weeks! Hm, I didn't know the bumps had different styles! Has there been any people at all asking what's that in your mouth?

Rubberbands with Invisalign. Sounds very strange to me. Maybe you start off with Invisalign and then at the end, they switch you to traditional braces? That has happened to many Invisalign patients and they didnt know they had to switch until the end and they were very disappointed. I would question your ortho on that!!
I have 5 buttons or "speed bumps", and I have no problem with people noticing them.
Have you ever thought of getting linguals. Sounds like your going to go to traditional braces anyway.
Im very curious about the rubberband situation. You should call your ortho and find out how that works.
Please post the info when you find out.
Thanks!

Using elastics with Invisalign is an advanced technique. If your ortho is using them then they are probably pretty experienced with Invisalign. The buttons are noticeable if you stare and know what to look for. But just like the aligners they are pretty transparent to the naked eye that is simply glancing.

Thank you Rory! that sounds really good!
nvrsaynvr, I'll ask my ortho when I go there next time in 3 weeks. I told her the first time that there was no way I would go with traditional at all, and she said I didn't need to and that I was a perfect candidate for invisalign! I guess I just have two teeth that need to be pulled down a bit, which she started telling me how elastics could do. But then I kinda freaked out because I do want it as close to invisible as possible!
I kinda do wish I had gone with the lingual I don't really know what made me choose invisalign. I guess just the idea of the metal in the mouth in any way kinda scare me!
I will try to pull myself together and ask her about the rubberbands on my next appointment in 3 weeks, when I'll get my first sets of trays! I just get so nervous when I'm there and can't think staight!

Maybe try writing your questions down and leave them in your car, so when you get to the ortho - you can take the questions in with you.
I have to do that with my everyday life because Im losing my memory -being so old now.
Rory - can you explain how the rubberbands work? Do they get attached to the lower and upper part of the mouth? How? Isnt the trays in the way?
BTW - for those who care. Saturday I get my last tray on the uppers! Whoa!
I went to my regular dentist for cleaning and he said my teeth cant get any more perfect and he wants to take pictures of me and my smile, to hang in his office. I told him - only if I autograph it.
So, thats what I will use to post my pictures.
But it will have to wait 6 months, until my lowers are complete (of course).
And I get the whitening done.
Also, Im going to a professional photo studio to have the pics done - on my dentist dollar of course. So, hopefully they will turn out great for all of you to see.

The bumps on the side of my mouth are round and although cant be seen unless I pull back my gum, when I do you can see them. However, this is always in private so not an issue. The bumps on the front of my teeth are rectangle and even when I look in the mirror from a couple of inches away I can’t see them! I have to keep checking they are there with my finger nail!

nvrsaynvr; How exiting for you! That is so awesome! I'm definetely a bit jalous but I can't wait to get the perfect smile myself! Has a lot of people noticed that you had invisalign before you told them? You should definetely post your beautiful pictures here! That's definetely something to be proud of, you'll even have them taken professionally! WOW!
Kris, thanks! Sounds like great news to me! I just hope I'll get that kind on my front teeth as you are talking about too! I guess only time will tell!!! I'm really exited and nervous too!

like i have said in the past my ortho only seems to concentrate on the present rather than the future, im getting to the 1/2 point soon i personally think a revision will be a waste of time because the molars that have tipped is the only problem and the only thing i can see fixing that is elastics which i presume would be at the end of treatment iv no idea if my ortho will try to use such a complex treatment if she has not done it before and she may be tempted to stick me in metal braces, could i demand that she has to try elastics, another thing that sucks in uk iv been told a revision will set me back £250 ontop of the £4000 iv already paid
also just got another 3 sets and when i saw my ortho i had a bit of filing done which i thought u were told at begining if u have to have it done she also did it manually

Diehard; it really sucks about the molars tipping! How does that look like? Did you post any pictures? I'm curious to see what it looks like when the molars tip. How do you chew your food? I wonder if elastics would work? I know I would hate ending up in metal braces, I would never have corrected my teeth if I hadn't found invisalign! Hmm I don't really know much about all this stuff yet since I'm still new to this stuff. But I do Hope it all works out great for you!
Rory; Thanks for the info! Did you have that done to you?

i think molars only tipped because i had 4 extractions so the teeth that have tipped had lots of space, the molars have tipped about 45 degs so the begining of the tooth is almost leval with the gums and what makes it worse is the bottom molars have tipped 1 way and the top the other way like this if it makes sense <
