Funny misunderstanding...

#1 Post by Attagirl2 »

A little background - When I had my braces removed last month, one of my molar crowns came off with the band. I had to have it reglued that day because we were going out of town the following morning. Unfortunately, I could not reach my dentist. I was however, able to get a walk in appointment with my husband's dentist.

Now fast forward to today.

My expanation to the Hygenist: "When my braces were removed, one of my crowns came off. I tried to get a hold of the dentist, but no body answered the emergency numbers. Seeing that it had to get done that day, I had my husband's dentist glue it back on."

I was watching the Hygenist while I was speaking to her. All of a sudden she got this panic look on her face and she calmly asked me - "What kind of glue did he use."

I replied, "I don't know".

She was really panicing then, when she said "you don't know what kind of glue your husband used?"

I started laughing and she was just totally perplexed until I could get out that, "I had my Husband's DENTIST, glue it on".

I giggled through my whole cleaning this morning. Made for a long visit as she would have to stop until I got it under control.

This will be one of those moments that will never be forgotten as long as she is my hygenist! Probably will giggle everytime I am there, too.

Me being the sarcastic person I am, I would have said super glue just to see her reaction. That's pretty funny though. I'm sure the look of worry on her face was priceless.

 that's funny, made me laugh. Don't you just love such misunderstandings...they make you burst out laughing out of nowhere later that day (attracts some weird looks too :P )

My dad, about 10 or 15 years ago, had a crown fall off over the weekend. He got some of that "temporary dental repair glue" from the drugstore and used it to stick it on until he could get to the dentist.

That crown is still stuck strong!

That's so funny that she thought your husband glued the crown back!

That is a really funny story, especially the part about you giggling all of the way through the cleaning and the hygienist having to stop. I love that kind of laughter, where you can't stop yourself from thinking about it, let alone laughing.

I think you must have just changed your avatar between today and yesterday, because yesterday I actually wondered if you had posted pics yet of your brace-free smile!

Your teeth look terrific! :D

Thanks Attagirl2 for this lovely post.

Yes, what PrincessMelody said would have been a nice
"experiment".

And indeed, seeing your teeth now sans braces in your avatar,
I do have to say they look just awesome. I am sure you get
many positive reactions. I guess a lot of your friends will start
an orthodontic treatment too if they see what a wonderful result
you were given !

Thanks everyone. Yes, the Avatar was changed yesterday. And yes, I am pleased with the outcome - so was my dentist. Now, I have to have one more crown put on my back lower second molar - :-(( My dentist showed me with a mirror why he can't just fill it - too much metal back there already. He told me going into braces that this would have to be done as soon as the braces come off, so it is no surprize. Just wish my husband wasn't having two crowns put on his teeth at the same time....

Oh, the Hygenist said that if a crown should ever pop off again, just to get some polygrip or something like that until I can get into the office.

And, about gluing your own on... My dentist told me a story about a gentleman who lost his crown at a family function. His brother in law was a surgeon and suggested gluing it on with the new super glue that they were using at that time. Problem was, they didn't get it seatted all the way and it stuck! My dentist had to cut the crown off and make a whole new one!

And, one last tidbit my dentist told me. I have been using whitening strips. He said not to whiten my teeth any whiter than the whites of my eyes. He said any whiter and they will look like false teeth.

My kid's pediatrician told me years ago that he had used super glue to glue a crown back onto a tooth and he not only glued the tooth in place, he glued his fingers to the tooth! :biglaf:
