Just reposting this from the other Metal Mouth Forum - didn't realize that this section existed.
Hi all,
I've been a lurker on these forums for about 2 years while I've had my braces on (and before I got them). I've never had to ask any questions, so I never felt any need to join. They are comin off tomorrow morning!
Just wondering why it's such a lengthy process to have them removed.. what to expect, any pains or discomforts during the debonding, etc. Also, in terms of retainers. He wanted to put some permanent contraction for my top teeth, and I said absolutely not - my job requires speech to be perfect; I know that retainers have a chance of causing a lisp. I will wear it at night. Anyway, there is apparently a permanent wire that's placed on I think 6 bottom teeth (at the front) to stop them from crowding again. This wire is glued to the inside of my teeth (invisible). Anyone have this wire? Anything to expect from it - speech, pain, annoyance, etc.?
Thanks a lot in advance, looking forward to your replies!

I have a permanent retainer on my bottom teeth just as you describe. It made me lisp just slightly at first until I got used to it. I have to say, it is not retaining my teeth all that well so I am wondering what the ortho will say when he sees it at my check up. I don't really care about my bottom teeth that much but if my top teeth had moved like this I would have been back in the office about 3 weeks ago.
