So here is the deal with me

#1 Post by honkeetonk »

Hey guys, just registered - what a great site. Anyway, I am 20 years old and I just got metal braces for my lower only and I just got my top retainer modified for a slight problem with my front tooth moving back about a 1/2 a mm (it's still noticable) I originally got braces both upper and lower about 7 years ago and wore them for about 2 years. I had both a top expander and a lower expander, I had a pretty severe overbite and I did wear rubberbands to correct it. After I got my braces off 5 years ago my bottom started shifting again and I was made a new retainer with the spring to push them back in place- this ended up messing up my bottoms and I got braces just on the lower again (clear ones, the ceramic this time) Wore them for I think about 6 months to a year and my bottom teeth were never the same. Over the years I lost my bottom retainer but I religiously wore my top - So just last week for the THIRD time, yes people I say THIRD time getting lower braces...

My question is - My bite is messed up again I think - last week when they placed the lowers on they put this cement on my back molars calling it a "bite razor" because my top teeth were resting on the bottom bracets which was uncomfortable. Still, I don't like biting on cement, but the ortho claims I will wear these for about 6 Weeks. I am wondering is there anyway to place rubberbands to the top retainer (since I don't have upper braces) to fix my overbite, how do you fix an overbite if you don't have upper braces?

Let me know thanks
