Congrats on your braces! Sounds like you are having fun with them. It really is a lot of fun to show off your new jewelry and to be able to relax and smile and not worry about your teeth anymore. It's so much easier to have braces if you actually like them. And, of course, purple is a wonderful color to have in your mouth. That was my first color, too. Actually, I've got it on my bottoms right now (blue on top).

Here's to fast changes and a great attitude!!! :D

It's like they finally make me look friendlier. I have sooo often been told that I look grumpy when I am not at all...I think it's because the corners of my mouth naturally go south a little bit rather than north
Seriously... We need to meet! lol
I hear that ALL THE TIME. People don't approach me because they think I'm mean or stuck up... Then when they finally meet me, they always say "I thought you were so stuck up!" And I have always had the same theory as you. The corners of my mouth turn down, and I always look like my lips are pursed together. So, people think I'm mean...
Now, it seems like people talk to me all the time. The braces make my top lip poke out more, so it's a completely different look. And like you, I think it's a much better look!!

It's so nice to know of someone who is enjoying their braces. So many times we hear of the bad, and not enough of the good!

One week is down! Only...oh forget it, it's too early to do the math.... 17 months and 3 weeks to 23 months and 3 weeks left! (did that make sense?)

Thanks all for the nice comments! I have decided today that when my braces come out and my lips "deflate" from not being pushed out anymore, I will get my lips puffed up a little   I have never really considered this before but now that I see what my mouth looks like when the lips are positioned right, I don't ever want it to be like before again! I have looked at my mouth in a relaxed position over and over again now and it's confirmed...they are lifting it up in all the right places. It's not like I look like I am smiling or anything...but it doesn't look so uptight anymore. Seriously, I can't believe how much I am loving my braces. They have been nothing but a positive experience so far...and so very exciting to look for changes!

So, speaking of...is it my imagination or is my archwire straightening out a little tiny bit??? I think my crowned front tooth got pulled down a little bit, which makes sense because that's where I felt the most pressure. I have been wondering what in the world needed to be changed with that tooth. Maybe the are already trying to close my open bite? Not that these two pictures are accurate as far as the open bite goes..I think I just had my mouth slightly open in the first one. But I keep staring at the archwire...it looks straighter to me. The top anyway. Nothing seems to be happening on the bottom but that was to be expected. Those teeth have nowhere to go until they get slenderized.

MM, I don't think it is your imagination. That top wire does look straighter to me, too. Way to go, teeth!

Your teeth are straighter but your midline got worse. Hopefully that will be addressed asap.

:-(( You're right. I didn't even notice that. Oh man now I am a little bummed..that was the biggest reason for me getting braces. I didn't need backwards process there ...sigh

And how come your first adjustment is so soon? NOT FAIR!! :P
:D Well he said we would make an appointment after 4 weeks the first time, just to see how things are moving along and if I remember right he said he wanted to change the wire then cause he started me on a really thin one. However when I made the appointment I told the girl that I was to be seen in 4 weeks, and she gave me a date and I just agreed without even thinking about it. Turns out it was exactly 3 weeks after braces. Oh well now it's really soon I guess  ...I surely don't mind!

But after this first adjustment I will have to wait just as long as you, he said every 6 weeks then

Hey...I'm a newbie, but have been browsing for awhile. Just wanted to tell you that I've enjoyed reading about your decision to get braces. You are a couple of weeks ahead of me (I get my top braces next week), so you've given me an idea of what to expect. :D I've had my spacers on for a week now (ouch, ouch, OUCH!) and have to wear them for one more week before braces go on. I'll start "my story" soon.

Just wanted to say "Congrats" on beginning your journey. Your braces look great! :)
