horizontal attachments

#1 Post by jeni »

I am wondering - does anyone else had horizontal attachments? My two bottom attachments are horizontal instead of vertical. This doesn't bother me. But the ortho, who is the most experienced non-premier provider in my area, saw them and his reaction was "are those horizontal attachments?" as though he had never seen any. Are they really that unusual?

I think they are harder to get off since there is more surface to go over than with vertical attachments. But, they smoothed the edges a bit to the point where it is easier to get out. But, the difficulty in removing the aligner could also be due to them being on the same tooth on each side. Therefore, working from back to middle on both sides simultaneously to get the aligner out does not work for me. I found it easier to go from one side to the other with the aligner with the horizontal attachments.

I have 18 attachments and they are horizontal and vertical. To get the aligners off, I am working from back to middle on both sides. Then I am trying to put the aligner on the front teeth off.

That was the best way for me and my ortho told me to be a little bit carefull with the aligners, because of the many attachements I can easily damage the aligner  After one week my aligner isn´t damaged and getting them out is much easier than in the first few days.

I can´t wait until next week to put in my next aligners :D

Got the Speedbumps Today

#3 Post by inkogal »

I got my first trays a couple of weeks ago and went in today for the attachments - four horizontal across my top front teeth - pretty!

The process of getting the attachments was uneventful and they told me to stick with current aligner until tonight to make the new ones easier to remove (theory being that after 8 hours of sleep they would be easier to remove).

It's hard to remove the aligner and interestingly, just adding the bumps added a lot of new pressure on two teeth that really need to move - I am so psyched! If I can see the gain, I can deal with the pain! I am really worried about removing the new aligner though, as it will likely be a lot tighter!

Other update is I only have 15 U and L! I thought for some reason it was more, but I was wrong. And I looked at my 6th set compared to now and there is some serious movement ahead, yeehaw!

Lastly, it took FOREVER to get my first set and today I realized why. I was originally scheduled to get OrthoClear. Doh!

I've got four horizontal attachments on my top front teeth and 4 vertical attachments on my lower teeth. The top aligner is a lot harder to get off than the bottom one because of the horizontal attachments. The bottom one comes off in 2 seconds but the top one takes about 10-15 seconds. After the aligner has been in for 2-3 days, though, it comes out a little easier. My dentist actually had to remove one of my top attachments after the first two weeks because it was so hard to get it out (10-15 minutes of trying). Now it only takes 10-15 seconds to get out :D
