Virginia (Northern) Oral Surgeon Recommendations

#1 Post by dufficat »

I have been reading the boards for a while and I am now closer to beginning my journey. It is an overwhelming process and I have met with several orthodontists and oral surgeons already, but I have not yet committed to either at this point.

I wondered if any Northern Virginia residents could share with me their experiences with any oral surgeon in N. Virginia. I am looking for any recommendations from members who have already had the surgery (upper).

Thank you very much.

I had my surgery in Northern Virginia but it was conducted at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda.

You might want to check out the Dr. Oogle web-site (the link is below). It has a listing of approximately 65+ Oral Surgeons in the Northern Virginia / Washington DC area. The web-site has patient ratings for each of the Oral Surgeons ... may be a good starting point.

Absolutely right Meryaten. I do think it'd make a good starting point, however, as it provides a ready-made list of doctors and oral surgeons that can then be researched independently by dufficat.

I had my surgery with Dr. Guttenburg. He was recommended to me by my ortho. He's on K street in DC, just a bridge away from NoVA. You can look at his office info at mouthfacejaw.com. Good luck!

Hi kodiakstar and MazingerZ,

I have a consulation scheduled with the Fairfax Oral Surgery group and Dr. Jeffrey Lane. My orthdontist recommended him, and I am going to talk to him before I commit to the braces as braces alone will not correct my bite problem.

Which orthdontist are you both using? It is a daunting process just picking the right team!

No orthodontist here, most likely just heading strait for the surgeon. It's something I've been told countless times from many dentists and orthodontists but just keep putting it off (27 here). I can't stand the constant pain and headaches anymore.

My ortho is Dr. Hickory in DC. His website is http://www.dcorthodontics.com/.
He seems to be more expensive than others. I paid $7K to correct overbite and overjet. Mine is an extraction case. His initial consult is free though and no sales pressure at all.

I chose him because most of his patients are adults. :)
