Jen's Braces Journal--Braces OFF (PICS)!!!
Moderator: bbsadmin
Thanks KK! The open bite in the front makes it very tough to bite into a sandwich! I am having an issue with my expander at the moment. On the right side, the metal is fitting very snugly to the gum. It almost seems like part of my gum is growing over it. It hurts a bit and was bleeding a few days ago. I am not sure if I should just live with it until my next appointment or if I should schedule an appointment in the interim to have it examined.

Jenfire,
I just got your post on my journal, and I CANNOT BELIEVE the progress you have made. WOW! I can only hope my teeth will make such a vast improvement! I agree that our bottom teeth look similar. Thanks for your feedback. Check out my post in a couple days and I should have pics up with the braces on. Good luck to you, and great job so far!

I just noticed that you guys had posted. Thanks so much! I am very happy about my progress so far. I have another adjustment in a week and I'm hoping that lower lateral straightens out a bit before then so I can get a tougher wire again on the lowers.

I have the exact same issue! I haven't had it checked out yet, but you can see what I mean if you take a look at my last pictures.[/b]jenfire wrote:Thanks KK! I'm excited about my adjustment tomorrow morning. My ligs are all stained and yucky so I always look forward to them being changed. I'm really hoping that we begin dealing with this anterior open bite (it's not huge but still makes eating difficult).
I'll post updates when I get back from the appointment!
Cheers!

I had an adjustment this morning. I got a new wire on the bottom. So now both are 16x22. Next appointment I will get vertical elastics to close my bite. Apparently, the crossbite I had in the back is fixed now also. Everything is going pretty well.

Hey Jen!
Hey there Jen
I've just read through all your postings. You've gone through alot of changes, i have the same problem as you! lower crowding, however you see how you had one tooth out of alignment - i have two teeth out of alightnment at the bottom. One was easier enough to bring it with the braces - the other one however was not quite as easy. A open coil spring was needed, and it's on right now. I hope my teeth opening was as quick as yours!

Hi cbradac! I'm certain that your teeth will open up and the tooth will move forward quickly. Once my spring was put on and the following adjustment the tooth was connected (that really hurt when she connected it!) the tooth came forward very quickly! It was totally worth the initial pain. I am continually amazed with the things orthodontics can accomplish.

I scheduled an additional appointment with my orthodontist for this Tuesday. I will be discussing how to go about relocating this summer. I decided to go ahead and get info from them so that when we go visit to look for housing (next month) I can also see some orthodontists if necessary. I figured it's best to do now then assume that I can just get in right away with another orthodontist in July or August.
I do not know exactly what to expect...but I hope that switching orthodontists will not end up being a pain (costs or otherwise). I guess we'll see what my current orthodontist recommends.

I had an amazing orthodontist visit today! I thought I was just going in to discuss relocating...but when I got there they also decided to do an adjustment. The ortho and assistant were very encouraged about my progress and think a lot can be accomplished b/t now and when I move in July (he said to hold off on scheduling an appt with an ortho there right now--there may be a chance we can finish it. Fingers crossed).
I got a new tougher wire on both the top and bottom. I also got elastics...triangle configuration. There is a lot of tension in my mouth right now! I'll wear the elastics 24 hours a day and can take them out for eating & cleaning teeth.
The most exciting news is that my expander (RPE) was removed!!!!!!!! It has been in since March 2006. It feels so weird now that my tongue can touch the roof of my mouth. I feel like there is sooo much room in my mouth now.
Here are some pics taken today:

Jenfire, that is an exciting possibility-- being finished before your moving! How far is that from where you are now? Great pictures, really nice smile. Hope it will be a breeze from here on, and the elastics do their job quickly and with little discomfort after the initial shock. Good luck.
It's all in how you see yourself!
