I made my previous question too broad. Mostly looking for people who have tried everything to help their TMJ problems and finally had jaw surgery to help.
What surgery did you get and how much pain do you experience now compared to before?
TMJ Sufferers - Did Surgery Help?

Hi,
I'm sorry to hear about your TMJ. I suffered with it for about 5 years. I finally found relief with a neuromuscular dentist and am now having ortho treatment. You might want to check at the TMJ forum at this website
http://forums.healthcentral.com/discuss ... ain/forums.
I spoke to a lot of people on this website and they were very helpful. There are a lot of people who have had TMJ surgery on the website, as well.
Good luck! Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions.

I was told my TMJ joints are fine it's just my lower jaw being larger is putting stress on my TMJ joints which makes them very sore. Ortho surgery I am told my two doctors, have a third opinion coming next month, will help alleviate the soreness/pain because my jaw will be able to rest like it should. Does this sound right?
At night I wear a splint and when I wake up I feel quite fine but end of the day it hurts. If I focus on it during the day I unconsciously tense it and it gets worse.

A friend of mine had invisalign and then a lower jaw advancement last year since she was having really bad TMJ issues. She said that it has made a big difference and that she is not in pain anymore from her TMJ now that her bite is properly aligned. She did tell me that she has developed a wicked popping in her jaw joint though, which the doctor told her can happen sometimes, but that it is not painful at all, and that overall she is very happy with her results.

I haven't had surgery yet, but my ortho is getting me ready for it. She doesn't like to do the surgical consults until the patient is about six months away from surgery. I'm really antsy to get moving.
Unfortunately in moving things here and there, my bite is way off. That has made my TMJ really active. While I'm not having nasty pain (although I do feel it), my inner ear is off. That's screwed up my balance a great deal.

I wore braces (this time) for 1294 days or 3 years, 6 months and 17 days.

My TMJ manifested as an earache that I couldn't shake. I actually went to my dr 2 times for an ear infection. He told me to go to the dentist.
My top jaw was too narrow and that made my jaw "unhinge" when I would chew. I had SARPE in nov. I am much improved.
