oh no another newbie!

Oh you bet! 50, teacher, and now (as of yesterday) sporting In-Ovation R self-ligating brackets on the bottom arch and waiting for Invisalign for the upper arch. Wonderful site everybody, thanks for making this easy. Can't wait for the first class day and all the students' reactions. I am still a teenager at heart, despite the tough exterior which gets me through each year.

No problems yet.

Can't believe I'm the second oerson to say hi, cause I'm less than a week in braces myself, but HI. In Ovation Rs...that's what I got too, I hear they are the latest hi tech gizmo. Kewl. Can't do color with them, just the mean gleam of steel.

So after 6 days for me I feel tightness but no "pain". Wonder if that's just me or the gear. Let me know.

Thanks for the welcome all. Parr, watch those typos, I'm the grammar police (OMG no one will ever post again knowing an English teacher is here!)

You ask about "pain". None. Tightness yes. A few sore spots from rubbing which rinses etc will care for over time. Yes, much orthodontistry is kinder/gentler as I understand it, but people have different sensitivities, different issues being corrected, and treaments are different. I'm sure these gadgets can cause pain for some people. Maybe we're just lucky or maybe it's yet to come.

Treaments, Teach?

I can only give you a B- for that, I'm afraid!

Welcome to the boards, by the way.

Lisa and Parr, hope you understand I don't proof e-board posts (except for cuss words I excise), so I know where you are at (cringe) K? I'm as prone to sloppy writing here as anyone else.

Sorry about your less than wonderful experience with English, Chillin'

(oops, just noticed the spell check on this site...thanks all for support and proofing help!)

An English teacher? You'd've loved the letter I once got from my OLD dentist. In three short sentences they managed to massacre the English language so severely I was seething about it for days *lol*

Seriously, its one thing to make an odd typo here or there, or not to bother terribly in an informal setting like this one, but its quite another in a piece of professional correspondence!

In case you were wondering here's the list of crimes:

My address was wrong
My title was wrong
They didn't bother to capitalise either of my names.
They did capitalise the word 'dental' inappropriately.
They didn't bother to write out the word appointment fully, but instead went with 'app', after which they also decided to forgeo the full stop.
They misspelled 'unfortunately'
They misspelled 'inconvenience'
The grammatical structure of the third sentence was nonsensical.
It wasn't signed. It could've come from anyone!

Anyway *lol* Rant over. Erm... *blushes* Welcome to the boards?

Hey Teach!

I teach in Maryland, also! Do you mind saying which county? I'm in Frederick County. You say you teach "English" this tells me you work at the High School level...am I right?

My students loved it when I got braces. I work with middle school kids and they were very supportive, offered advice and then when a student got braced for the first time, they came to me for advice!

That was the best part....

When I got them off, I offered reward coupons for anyone who could tell me what had changed about me. Several said I'd lost weight (nice try and they got coupons for that, too!) Only one student noticed that they were off, she said it was only because she had braces and always looked at people's teeth because of it.

Have a fantastic experience and keep us posted on your treatment and on the kid's reactions!!

Oh goody, an English teacher on the board.

I see that you're in self-ligating brackets, and thanks for spelling this correctly. The alternate spelling frequently used suggests that they are a very litigious bracket indeed.

And I shall be watching my typos like a hawk from now on.

I agree too. "Txt tlk" has its place in text messages where you are limited to 300 characters per message and speed is of the essence. I can also understand why it's gained popularity amongst users of MSN.

I can't stand seeing rampant typos in professional business correspondence. To me it comes across as lazy and unprofessional.

But then, I'm old and doubtless a fuddy-duddy
