English teachers galore! Hahaha! I have a friend who turned into a high school English teacher, after we had the most inspiring AP English Lit teacher. When she would speak and read to us, we would see colors and images. She was a tough cookie, she would make us edit our papers until our eyes would bleed. Literary analysis papers haunted our sleep! Now, we thank her for all she has done because she made college a breeze!

Love that you're still close enough to "Balmer Canny" to mantain that adorable vernacular!!

Welcome -- I also work in the schools as a speech therapist. I got my braces 10 days ago (the upper are ceramic, but the lower are all metal, baby). I work primarily with kids with disabilities, many with autism, and it will be interesting to see who notices and who doesn't. I have one little girl who is obsessed with anything to do with toothbruses or anything oral, so I am assuming she will notice. Since many of the kids do not communicate very well, I am sure one or two funny stories will come out of it -- I will pass them on!

I had a boy with autism tell me (a few times) to "just take them out, they make me mad." I love how honest they are!!! I finally told him they made my teeth feel better (ya right) and after thinking that over, he told me that would be okay, but I wasn't aloud to smile big at him anymore. Gotta love it!!!

Just wanted to confirm this for everybody here, I have been granted permission to reveal to you all that HeyTeach was my fave HS teacher of all time. (the phrase "grammar police" gave it away) But what is really fun is we have the same ortho. See ya at your 1st adjustment, Teach!

Kiwi: "As all teachers are teachers of English" oh how I wish it were true, but in America that is not the case and in fact many English teachers should be "dis-credited"

Jennielee: goin' down e ocean grab nme a six a NattyBo, hun. How's that for the vernacular? I wasn't raised speaking like that, buit went to college and had a Baltimoron for a roommate so I learnated it good!

And yes, everyone Parrr is a former student of mine. I bumped into him at a restaurant. He recognized me, not vise versa. (The kid's grown up now, ok?) Grammar Police has been an in-school persona of mine for years. DOH!

I would have disagreed with the statement that "all teachers are teachers of English" earlier, but I thought the topic was dying down. Not everyone speaks English! Perhaps it should be "all teachers are teachers of language and grammar", in whatever language is appropriate.

I was a teaching assistant in grad school (believe me, no one really cares about trigonometry) and I reviewed my group's documents when I was a supervisor. No document got past me with spelling errors! I was "the devil with the red pen". But, my group got even with me. They marked up a copy of a recipe that I had given one of the group members and I think they managed to work in every correction I had made on their documents. What goes around, comes around - in the spirit of fun, of course.
