ilovemacs' Story- Almost Done! (Aug. 21)
My braces journey began on Oct.11 at 11:10 AM when I got my top braces on. I get my bottoms on in approx. 3 months. Right now I have black and light pink ligatures. I'd recommend that colour to anyone!! Getting the braces on was painless. They were placed with indirect bonding. It only took one hour total for getting the top braces on and the how to brush lessons etc. I even went back to school after!! The same night at supper they started to hurt, they even hurt a lot eating Mr.Noodles! Friday.. WOW pain, I took Motrin as recommended by my ortho. Saturday they hurt as well, Sunday just slightly and Monday, just a little. On Saturday I ate 2 cupcakes normally chewing (it was the first thing I had chewed since I got my braces on and still is. Wow that hurt a lot!! I thought cupcakes would be painless but wow I was wrong. I'm still not chewing. When I got my top braces on I asked are these brackets being applied by indirect bonding-- they said YES!!, they also said that was a first for anyone to ask that-- that were impressed with me. Well of my novel thats all for now!!

My estimated treatment time is 10-14 months plus retainers of course, I'm pretty sure they said I'll get an essix retainer when I'm done and maybe a bonded as well, but thats a while away so not to worry.
In case anyone wants to know the main reasons for me getting braces are crowding, an overbite and orthogantic jaw relation (no idea what that is but I think it may be how your jaws relate seeing as it says "jaw realation".) But all is well for now, in my lunch I have SO NICE strawberry soy yogurt, applesauce, a peach fruit cup and water, and the rest I can't remember. Then off to brush my teeth. I've yet to floss my teeth with braces because of the soreness, but plan to sometime this week.

Wow.... when I got my top braces on (Oct.11/07) I asked if the 2nd last (last molars aren't braced) had a buccal tube on them. I though it was pronounced bu-cal (b with a long u sound and cal as in short form for calorie ) I pronounced it like that... not "buckle" tube!! Oops!! Next time I go on Dec.13/07 I'll say I meant "buckle tube". The assistants said I think you mean "buckle tube" oops!
Finally the pian is gone... at least for now anyways!!
After one week of being in top braces the pain is gone, for now.... I hope! When I bite into things I get scared. Sometimes when I bite into things it hurts. The only things I tried to bite into were 2 soft tacos from Taco Bell, and a piece of toast with peanut butter, I can tell you it hurt..... The tacos didn't hurt as much. I love toast but think I'll give it up because I'm scared it'll hurt the braces and it hurts to eat.
My proxy brush is my BEST friend!! I like the travel one my ortho gave me better because it fits better in my small hands.
In my goodie bag I received:
~ An orthodontic cut toothbrush-- (its purple KK!!)
~ A travel sized proxy brush
~ A regular sized proxy brush
~ 2 replacement tips
~ Waxed dental floss
~ Floss Threaders
~ A tube of Colgate Total Travel Sized toothpaste
~ A package of orthodontic wax
~ 2 pamphlets
All of these are GUM/ Butler products.

ilovemacs, I love macs too!
I've been in braces for over a month now, and I am still not able to bite into anything. You're lucky that you were able to eat a soft taco, though. I don't see myself being about to do that in a very long time. I've officially become a fork and knife girl, making it possible for me to eat whatever I want! Although I do look a bit obnoxious eating sandwiches, but, who cares?

Yay for Macs!! Leopard on the 26th, yay!!
The soft tacos really hurt!! I plan on using a fork and knife for things I need to bite into from now on. Tonight I ate a pizza sandwich (basically like a grilled cheese with pizza toppings inside.) I ate it with a fork and knife!! Tomorrow I may eat a submarine sandwich from SUBWAY for lunch with a fork and knife or tear it apart with my fingers!!
I'll try!!

I'm with you KK - bite size pieces to the back of my mouth, that seems to keep the "meat in my grill" problems to a minimum. I haven't really found anything that's impossible to eat, just a bit harder or needs a different eating game plan!
Feel free to check out my braces blog by clicking on WWW icon below - I'd love to have you drop by!
I lately have been making double chocolate muffins, and eating them with a fork. It seems I've been eating everything with a fork and a knife Ha ha. I think I'm too scared to bite into everything. Oh well. I just haven't taken any muffins to school because they are a pain to clean after, compared to everything else.
Oww! While dancing at a school dance I got a slight hit in the mouth! It wasn't that hard, I got really scared, went to the washroom to look in the mirror and everything was fine. No brackets were lose, nothing broken or hurt. In that area the sport were I got hit the teeth were lose, so they hurt even worse then they already did, and I didn't have ANY Motrin!! It was scary! When I got a closer look at home, no damage, thankfully!!
Next weekend (Thursday night until Sunday afternoon), I'm going to a youth conference, with loud music. I'm excited. I'm also scared because there will LOTS of people there, lots of friends so it will be ok, I'm scared of eating in front of people, since I've got my braces I've sticked to softer foods, except supper when I eat with my family, but I'm scared of eating "regular" food all the time.
Wish me luck!!

Hi ilovemacs!
Sorry you got hurt! I work with my church's youth group, and I've been surprised at how awesome my tees been about my braces. They've done everything from helping me pick out what to eat at restaurants to holding my head and making me smile to see if I've had any changes!
Needless to say, you shouldn't worry about eating in front of a bunch of people, especially considering that they are your friends. Chances are they've all been (or are) there in braces with you.
