OrthoSil Silicone

OK - I bought the OrthoSil silicone to try instead of wax. Someone please tell me just how do you get the brackets dry before applying this stuff so it will stay put? Especially in the back. Tried a dry, clean washcloth held against the brackets - the loops in the fabric got caught in the brackets.
Needless to say I then tried cursing - but that didn't work either.
Mouth usually feels dry as a desert until I come at it with the silicone!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Try a cotton ball or cotton facial square.

Yes, it can be a little tricky to get the hang of applying the silicone.

Use your pinky finger to hold your "cheek" way out and stick a Q-tip back there to dry off the bracket. Don't let go of the cheek - use the same hand to put on the wax as you used to hold the Q-tip. It gets easier after the first couple of times.

I use a hair blow dryer. Put it on low and let it blow (from a good distance) on my teeth. This works good but you have to be quick. I love OrthoSil but you have to be sneaky putting it on.

munchkin, I had wondered about the blow dryer but decided I must be crazy - Good to know I'm not alone!

For applying Orthosil, I've discovered a little trick: dry your tooth, wet your finger. If your finger is dry, the wax will stick to it as easily as it does your tooth, and you'll end up pulling the wax away when you pull your finger away. If, OTOH, you lick your finger a little just before putting the wax on, that seems to help.

For what it's worth, if you can wrap the wax around the bracket or wire completely, it seems to stick better, whether wet or dry.

For drying the area, I usually take a paper towel or napkin (as I'm usually doing this in a restroom) and roll it into a little tube and then bite down on the tube's edge so that the majority of it goes around the tooth. Then, I suck in my cheeks a little to press the napkin against the bracket. Granted, I'm usually applying wax only to the back four, where the wire begins to poke out after awhile.

General comment: I've tried four different brands of wax now, and Orthosil is my favorite by far. I bought a case of it so that I wouldn't have to "conserve" between dentist visits.

Hm......I tilt my head back or lay down. Then I pretend like I'm cheesing and suck all the air through my teeth. It sounds like "Ssssseeekkkk, sssseeeekkkkk." I do that a few times and get my mouth all dry, then stick the orthosil around the offending bracket!
