Should you relax your mouth with elastics in?

#1 Post by algebraland »

Hi all, I'm new to the forum, but certainly not to braces, as I've had them for 3 years, but the end is definitely near! woot.
Anyways, I have a question about elastics and how you should wear them: When you have them in (I have a slight overbite, btw) should you just relax your jaw and let the rubbedr bands do their job in moving your lower jaw forward? Like just completely relax your entire jaw and mouth? Also, are they also meant to align the upper and lower jaw? They've done that for me, but is that also another one of their goals?
Thanks everyone!

I'd say just to be sure.. ask your ortho!
I'd also say keep your jaws in their natural positions, it will help things get moving. Good Luck! :D
