*doubly cries* now no caffeine either!
so the secretary messed up and forgot to tell my mom no caffeine. now I have to drink double the water I'm already supposed to, to get it out of my system. I can't get up in the morning without a Dr. Pepper! omg I'm positively going to die... DIE~!
Jalyn, you may have a headache and feel tired for a few days, but your system will adjust.
If you have the time, you can wean yourself off of it slowly....have only half a can of that soda, then a quarter of can the next day, etc...till you don't have any. You can do the same technique with coffee. Make a cup that's half decaf, half regular, and keep decreasing the amount of regular until there isn't any.
Also be aware that not all decaf coffees and teas are totally decaffeinated. If you are really serious about no caffeine, stick to only herbal teas or Folgers Decaf crystals, which have no caffeine at all. (I read that the Folgers has no caffeine, whereas other decafs do have some amount).
Also remember that there's caffeine in chocolate. The darker and stronger the chocolate, the more caffeine it has.

I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!
If you are having a Dr. Pepper every morning, be aware that there might be a sugar issue going on here too. I find my sugar withdrawl to be just as bad, if not worse than caffeine. Headaches that are not helped with pain relievers are the worst for me, but it only lasts 2 or 3 days. Perhaps you could do as Lynn said and go off slowly, but include sugar in the mix. Have 1/2 a Pepper tomorrow, then maybe a (soy) hot chocolate for the sugar boost. Just a thought - then again, you are way younger that I am, so I doubt it will be quite so hard
If it makes you feel any better, I am working my way off coffee and sugar as we speak. I only had 1/2 a cuppa today I always feel better when I avoid the stuff....but it calls to me

No caffeine? This surgeon's pre op instructions sound ridiculous.
I would want a good and thorough explanation of why this prohibition, including a description of precisely what would be the harm of continuing your caffeeine habit.

It is a bit harsh... no dairy, and no caffeine either. I really can't think of a reason why consuming either of those things would cause you harm. However, since you don't really have much choice in the matter, I would agree with Delag and cut down slowly.
I actually quit drinking coffee voluntarily before my surgery, because I was pretty sure the hospital wouldn't offer me coffee (they didn't) and I didn't want to have to deal with caffeine withdrawl on top of everything else.

thanks
I've been doing really good with it! They had said I had to go off it immediately though because she messed up and forgot to tell my mom so I had to drink double the water to get it out of my system. BUT! I found the best alterneative! Dr. Pepper Caffeine free tastes exactly like the real thing! *dances* no funny after taste like diet so I'm very happy. and koolaid is good, and alot of other things you suggested. so thank you!
Great to hear you have found something that works for you! Guess the joy of headaches etc. are just for us old foggies I am off caffeine and today is day one of 'project sugar'. I joined a gym and went for the first time today. As luck would have it, while I am jogging on the treadmil (in a state of wonder at how it is possible that my rear end is bouncing around so much) my very cute (and very happÃly married) ortho comes up and says hi . So much for sneaking in workout too soon after surgery .
I more worried about my stomach growling so loud that I'll drowned out the professors I work with.
Right now I use tea and coffee to hold me for about 20-30min till I can get to food. I had planned to do the same thing. I don't sit down very much at my job and am generally eating as I head to the next thing. Oh, I'll be eating, I can't not eat now or I get sick. I plan on always having a small water bottle clipped to my belt so I'm never without something.
Do you think they make utility belts for those zip-n-squeeze bags?
