White Wire Hawley and Bonded Retainers

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

White Wire Hawley and Bonded Retainers

#1 Post by malikara »

I'm due to have my braces off in a few months and my orthodontist has told me that I'll have to wear bonded retainers for life and Hawley retainers for a long time during the day, before being able to wear them at night only. With this in mind, I thought it would be nice if the retainers had white wires. Does anyone know if white wire Hawley's and bonded retainers are available? Not the white wire that peels after a few weeks!

From what I've read about the white wires on braces, the white chips off after a short while. Granted, you're not wearing the retainer while eating... I'm not sure if they would put this onto a retainer.... :Questions: But what a great idea!!!

In my reality....

My ortho told me that to replace the wire on a Hawley would be impossible. They can do some patching on the acrylic part, but the wire is not replaceable. One would have to pay for a new retainer...

I would love to hear what your ortho says if you decide to ask about this!
