how long before you notice a difference

#1 Post by sonja »

hi everyone... its been ages since i was on here last. but i am getting my extractions done on the 10th march and soon after the linguals go on.
in my case i have deep overbite so i am a little nervous i wont be able to bit down for a while as the braces will be in the way..

i am curious to know though how long it takes before you can notice a difference and start to see your teeth straighten up?
i mean having linguals on you'll be able to watch it happen easily and once they look semi ok the worst is really over.

i am really interested to find out how long it look for everyone before they looked in the mirror and saw those exciting changes...

The changes were subtle for me, like after 3 days I noticed that it was easier to floss around certain teeth.

The best way to track changes is to take photos at regular intervals (not every day, mind you!) and compare.

Oh ok that’s quick for changes to happen.. so would you maybe say if I have been told around 20 months for total treatment I can except to feel pretty good about my teeth in maybe 6 months or is that wishful thinking???

Mind you my ortho has told me 14-15 months in regular and 20-24 in linguals.. I’m not sure how accurate that is either.
Yeah everyday is getting rather obsessive..

Wow, getting nervous now too, mostly about the operation as I have never had one before..

You should notice a considerable change by 6 months.

Orthos' estimates are just that: estimates. Mine was 18 months, I went 21. Some go longer than that, while others finish up within the estimated time frame.

What operation are you having?

i am having all 4 unexposed wisdom teeth out, 2 baby teeth and my 2 eye teeth because they are impacted and my ortho feels this is the best option.
i'm really nervous about it all, just being put to sleep is freaking me out a bit.....

Yep, that procedure sounds as if it's best done under general anaesthetic!

Try not to worry about the extractions - easier said than done, I know. Going under is one of the nicest feelings I've ever had, btw. It only lasts a split second, mind you, then you're awake and it's all over.

so in 6 months i should notice a big difference hu!! thats really exciting. i will most likely post pictures once a month. they say the majority of movement is in the first few months, and its the jaw movement that takes the most time.

You might see some small changes within a few days. I noticed a gap opening up on one side of my upper centrals, which was slightly alarming because if it had opened any wider the wire would have been visible, but luckily the tooth moved very slightly and the gap disappeared a few days later. It was only a very small gap, probably only visible to me! Since then all the movement seems to have been on only one side of my jaw. Strange, I hope the other side is going to catch up. I had symmetrically crooked teeth before, but not now! BTW, Good luck with the extractions. I'll be having extractions too, after the alignment and levelling phase.

Hi, quick answer to your question. I hope it helps. I had my upper linguals inserted on Monday 11th and I can already see the progress. They seem to be moving very quickly!!!

They will be straight in no time!

well mine have moved, mainly one tooth though at the front and I think it gets a little worse before it gets better, but I hope that they are at least looking fairly good at 6 months

Hi, I noticed changes after only 1 month. I hadn't even had my first adjustment yet. I am very happy with my choice to go with the Ibraces.. the first month or two was a big adjustment. I know they are still there but it is not as noticible. Good luck with your journey! Mary

Newbie to IBraces

#15 Post by lmccl0 »

Hello there ---

Looking for some words of encouragement (more like praying). I got IBraces 6 days ago. I only have the lowers on. I haven't really experienced any soreness, just tongue pain on one side so I've had to use the wax. My BIGGEST concern is that I feel like eating/chewing will never be normal while I have these things on. I feel like I'm chewing metal - it's just plain weird.

I'm also suppose to get the tops on on March 12th so I'm even more worried. My speech is not back to normal yet and I'm still rocking a lisp which is fun when you are 31 years old.

When can I eat a hamburger for god's sake? The mushy food diet can't possibly last forever.

Any words of hope?
