Braces at 40

#1 Post by MBP »

After years (and I mean years) of indecisiveness, I finally decided to get braced. I had to force myself into action by putting the funds into my healthcare spending account. It's a use-it or lose-it kind of deal. Without the incentive, I'd still be pondering the whole idea

Anyway... I got my upper brackets "installed" on March 4th. Things were surprisingly easy. The most challenging part of the ordeal was trying to get used to the smell of the adhesive (which was eerily reminiscent of rubber cement). It wasn't bad though. After a short while, I didn't even notice it.

The upper bracket installation included a couple of rubber spacers, which are not painful at all. I am just afraid that I'll forget about them and floss them away. Meanwhile, my lower brackets will be placed on the 10th. I suspect the arch wires will go on then too.

My biggest fear? Getting a perfectly good tooth pulled in order to make room for the needed adjustment. Yikes! That ordeal is scheduled for the 13th of March. I'll be sad to see it go - it has been such a great tooth (smiles). Not to mention, it is one of the only "filling-free" teeth in my mouth. Sure wish they had dental sealants when I was a kid! So, it'll be "farewell 5th cuspid! I'll miss you!" Eh, um...on second thought...I sure hope I won't miss it!

That's about it for now. Thanks.
