Poll for adults with braces - if your interested

A and B...we couldn't even afford to get some cavities filled which caused me to lose 2 molars. Mom waited till I was in so much pain that I couldn't even eat...and when she did take me it was across the border in Mexico where they just pulled the teeth. Now, instead of fixing just the crossbite, I have to get teeth untwisted, tipped teeth uprighted, spaces closed, spaces opened, and implants...
When I was alittle older, mom put money away so that I could get braces but Dad got his hands on it and that was the end of that.
It sure is nice to finally have the money to get my teeth fixed!!!

A : for me dad passed away. Mum with 6 of us money was super tight. Now 18 year since that bad time. Hubby asked what I wanted for a wedding gift and I told him braces and here I m 3months 3 weeks in to treatment and I love what I'm seeing
I had my braces on for 3 years 4 months and 24 days that would be a grand total of 1220 days
A and E
I was one of three girls to a single mom and she couldnt afford it but I also chose E cause she probably wouldnt have even if we had it. My mom thinks it is ridiculous that I have gotten braces especially at my age. I think it is ridiculous she doesnt even get the fact that it not only is affecting my self esteem but it aint cool not to have your canines and to have gaps all in your grill!

My mom was a cheap b.... and when I became a adult I wigged out. Orthos said I'd have to pull a healthy tooth to make room. I did'nt do it.
Now as a old lady, I have them. No extractions as of yet and most likely won't have to .
DO ai wish I had done them at a earlier time on my life? OH YEAH.
Any regrets in doing them at a advance age? Hell NO.
I needed them then and I need them now. Glad I did it no matter what. Should have done them years ago instead of wigging out.

well guys/gals,
look on the bright side. we are getting it fixed now. and that all that really matters.
i really think i "appreciate" it far more now, than when i was a teen. as a kid you really see having braces as a pain. you just dont really take it seriously. well most dont. but now....I do. i hate the elastics,...but i wear them.
20 years later...it has a whole different meaning. am i way off the mark here on this? please tell me if i am.
its really not fun having braces,...but not that bad.
im enjoying the experience so to speak. how weird is that. i like watching the small progress. its cool to watch things move and happen. i hope there is someone else out there that feels the same way. wow...im an oxymoron. well maybe just a regular moron who knows. lol
smile under construction. lol
im going to bed now. my teeth hurt. damn rubber bands. but.....im wearing them. ALL 4 OF THEM !

I think you're right. In studies people always say the smile is one of the first things they notice in other people. A lot of people either had great natural smiles or had braces as teenagers and don't appreciate how lucky they've been.SuperDave wrote:i really think i "appreciate" it far more now, than when i was a teen. as a kid you really see having braces as a pain. you just dont really take it seriously. well most dont. but now....I do. i hate the elastics,...but i wear them.

I wore them back in 1981-1982 for 18 months, uppers only. Had a car accident 16 years ago which I started suffering from back, neck and shoulder problems (then years later I found out that my issues could lead to TMJ - which it did along with the stress of certain people in my life...) I sought out treament 9 years ago b/c I noticed some mild relaspe, but didn't do anything about it b/c one ortho said he'd make me a new retainer to hold what I currently had and another ortho said upper braces for 6 months for an outragous fee. I decided to pass.
Fast forward many years later after the stress of getting divorced and starting over, I was having issues with a tooth a cracked it, didn't think much of it, but went to my old dentist and I ended up needing a crown and a root canal, I started to really pay attention to my jaw ( it had been popping over the years, now I knew that I had issues. I didn't really do anything until a year later when I moved to Florida and found a dentist who I felt extremely comfortable with and mentioned the popping and he noticed it, I told him that I also felt that my bite was off and he mentioned about shaving off some of the enamal to make them fit, I didn't like that idea b/c it was permanent. That was the last resort... I started with a nightgard that didn't help, then I added compresses and 800mg ibuprofen for 10 days and that didn't help, the clenching started getting out of control and one day I noticed that I chipped my upper central incisor and I was done. Ran to the dentist and he fixed it and said, where do we go from here. He refered me to a couple of orthos and now here I am dealing with a class 3 relationship on my upper back teeth and a functional problem.
Three months down, nine months to go.

Definately C...my parents offered to pay for my braces when I was 18...it was more of a bribe than anything else. I wanted to move out of the house to be closer to my bf (now DH) and I had hated my teeth. But, alas, after the consultation I didn't want to go through with it because I just wanted to move out so bad. I didn't end up moving though for over a year after that, my bad!
So now I am paying for my own braces, doh!
