Well I got braced this morning! First I am not mortified with how they look! I am pleasantly suprised and think I look pretty good in them. But my goodness they feel like they are HUGE!!!! I feel like I can't close my mouth! I got both tops and bottoms today. Not really sore yet, but we will see!

Thought I would post a pic not the best quality but not bad. I got smoke colored ligs until I get used to all the metal. I think I will try teal next time!

The orthodontist kept asking me if I was sure that I wanted all metal! I told him that I am a little OCD and wanted everything to match! They don't feel quite as large as they did earlier and I got my DentaKit today! Talk about great timing!

I now understand why everyone says to wait a few days to floss!!! HOLY Snikees!!! Wow are my crowded teeth sore now! I think I will water pik and leave the floss alone for a few days!

BTW I HATE "Sturdy Floss" I have a piece that shredded stuck in a bracket and it took me a good 30min of messing with it to get it out! I have decided that I will never think my daughter is being a big baby again! They really are sore and she was laughing at me last night. I believe her phrase was "It sucks, doesn't it Mom?" Aren't 12 year olds great?

I forgot to also post that the ortho told me yesterday that while he is being conservative now, he might have to have 4 teeth EXTRACTED. I can't believe I am thinking of pulling perfectly good teeth!

Now I wish I had gotten a pretty color! I am basically used to the metal now. I still feel them but am quickly getting used to them. My cheek isn't catching as much every time I smile! I haven't heard any bad comments and everyone is saying that they look good on me......(of course I told them on Sunday that was thier only job on Brace Day!!!)

So my advice to people..............DON'T FLOSS THE FIRST FEW DAYS!!!

I will try and get a pic of my bottoms for posterity! I will post it later!

Hi Bekah,

Yep, flossing the first few days is not good! I tried the second night and nearly fainted! I decided to lay down on my bed with a little mirror propped up the next night and that worked :D . Haha, 12 years old are cute(I have one too:). At least you have someone to share it with!!

That sucks you may have to have extractions but you're not alone. I didn't have to have any to get my braces but I had my 4 wisdom teeth pulled a few years ago all at once...you get through it.

I look forward to seeing pics! :D
Keep smilin'! :)

They look GREAT!

Too funny about the OCD! I, too, am all about matching but I've decided that I'd prefer nearly invisible rather than matchy-matchy! Whatever works!

Yep, definitely go for some colors next time!

I have an 11 & 12 yr old and they will be getting braced sometime in the near future! It's going to be weird if we're all braced at the same time! And the checkbook will definitely be taking a hit! :(

Oh, why can't everyone just be born with perfect teeth?!?!

I think that would make life too easy! My daughter and I are both braced right now. I probably should have put it off till she was done. But all 3 of my kids are going to need them and the youngest is 6 now so I would be looking at 10 years before I could fix them!

Sadly I WAS born with perfect teeth! Those stupid wisdom teeth had to ruin it! It just wasn't right!!!

Here is a pic that shows the bottoms too. Hoping they move quickly!!!!

Hey Bekah! Congrats on gettin' them on. The time will just fly by and you'll be seeing movement in no time at all. 8)

The soreness should start to lessen in the next week or so. For me it took a good 2 weeks to get used to my braces, and to be completely honest I am not a good flosser. I can count on one hand how many times I've flossed in the past 5 months. I know, bad me! :soremouth: Thankfully my ortho appointments have resulted in good reports and I haven't been scolded....yet.

I have Damons on my teeth and ligs are optional and I have also decided for the metal look (though my top six are half clear). I just can't bring myself to be 'stuck' with a certain color for 6-8 weeks at a time.

Looking forward to your progress pics!

Ok I about died of laughter when I read the flossing comment. I waited until about 3 days after the braces to floss and I about fell over myself and I have an 8 yr old who makes fun of me much like your 12 year old. Funny how we tell them to tough something out and we're big babies lol.. Oh well here's to pretty teeth and funny kids. :-88

Heyyyy Bekah!

Congrats on your big day - they look great!! Hang in there with the flossing - if my boyfriends 14 year old has been able to do it for the past year and a half, you can too, I just hope i can! I floss all the time without braces, so I am determined to keep it up once braced!

I lost my tooth yesterday and survived! Will post pics tonight!

Congrats again!
Beth
