SPACEY'S NEW PIC

NEW PICS BELOW! CLICK THE IMAGES BELOW FOR SUPER CLOSE UPS!!

****AUGUST 29TH 2008***
I'm loving my braces. My Orthodontist called me a trouble maker because I haven't flossed the way I should. I will, I will!!! I've also had a bit too much champagne and we all know that isn't good for the glue. Besides my minor bad-braces behavior, all is well!! There has been lots of movement between adjustment 2 and 3. I'm so excited and cannot believe, now, how large the gap was before!! Geez it was huge!! But what kinda disturbs me is...my teeth seem to have shrunk! Click my pre-braces, day 1, then click the most recent. My teeth are shorter!! Anyone experience this also?

***APRIL 15TH 2008***

It's now the morning after Brace day and I'm feeling really good. I'm not in any pain. I took Aleve last night before bed to relieve pressure. I feel pressure this morning but much, much less than yesterday. Yes the glue and other stuff they use has an awful bitter taste but goes away once you treat yourself to a smoothie. The only discomfort during the process was the rubber mouth guards I wore. They kinda jabbed me in the cheek. I got a lil kit with wax (which I've used already) floss, toothbrush, toothpaste a t-shirt and photo how-to guide for brushing and flossing. I haven't flossed yet. Thanks for the WaterPik tip! I bought it this weekend and yes, it is the best $60 ever spent. I tried eating an omelet for dinner and was very disappointed. I realized my bite is a bit off and I kinda only bite metal ring to metal ring. My teeth don't touch therefore I can't fully bite down on food if that makes sense (see before and after front pics). I plan to ask the Dr. about this. I'm sticking to smoothies and soup for now. I'm sure this awkward 'HUGE MOUTH' feeling will go away. I feel like I have a HUGE apparatus in my mouth. I'm sure it feels bigger and odder than it looks. In really good news, I originally thought my treatment was a minimum of 18 months (18-20) but discovered yesterday is 12-18!! Woo hoo!

***April 10th 2008***
Day 4 with separators/spacers on. They are not painful but are very annoying. It feels like a tickle that won't stop. Or an itch I can't scratch. Eating was weird at first since it was like I had food and gum in my mouth at the same time. I find myself constantly biting down on them. I think that has something to do with being a HUGE gum chewer. For the most part the separators are manageable. I only took Aleve last night to stop the constant tickle sensation. It helped. There was no sensation at all after the Aleve kicked in. Can't wait till brace day April 14th!!!

***April 7th 2008***
My separators were put on today (my nine month wedding anniversary!!). It was a little rough getting them in as my back teeth are fairly close together. I thought I wouldn't have an appointment for braces for a few weeks but it's happening a week from today on the 14th!!!!! YAY!! YAY!!! :jump: The number 7 is lucky for me (wedding day was 07/07/07) so I'm happy my appts are falling on days divisible by seven!

No pain or discomfort yet but it's only been a couple of hours since the separators were put on.

***March 31st 2008***

Hi there! My gap started forming when I was approx 10 years old. I'm 33, living in California and I'm FINALLY getting braces since they are FINALLY affordable and it's simply long overdue!!! YAY!!! Thank you income tax return!!

I am calling the Orthodontist I liked the most tomorrow to begin the process!

I met with only two and was frustrated via phone by a couple of other offices (unreturned calls, unprofessional staff), So I'm going with the one that impressed me the most on all levels. First I made certain I was contacting an Ortho. I judged each on phone first impression, office appearance/location, staff friendliness and finally, the doctor himself (ability to answer questions and explain treatment in simple language, friendliness, overall coolness).

My husband has been so amazingly supportive. I think he played a big part in my decision to just do it already. Thank you honey!

Hi Spacey!

Such a great beginning to a great story to come I'm sure! :D

I did not have to have spacers (I have boring ol' teeth that didn't need any prep work) but I can only imagine how they must have felt. Pain relievers are your friend! Haha.

Hubbies are so cute when it comes to braces, we're so fortunate! When I came home with them on my first day he made me sit in front of him with my mouth gaping open so he could examine them. He thought they made me look like a teenager (I'm 25) and he kept making comments like "I'm going to start calling you jailbait!" It was really funny.

Welcome to the club, I look forward to following your story!

Hi Spacey,

Sounds like you're doing well with your spacers. I didn't have to have spacers but I know what you mean about the itchyness! My gums are itchy right now!! lol

Haha...jailbait! I love it! :D My DH calls me "braceface"...not very original but I think it's cute.

So, Monday's your brace day? Are you getting both uppers and lowers on? Good luck...can't wait to see pics!
Keep smilin'! :)

Thanks so much for the support Betho and Jenny!

I feel a little silly but...I'm not sure if I'm getting both or not! I feel well informed but not nearly as Ortho Savvy as you all. I'm sure I'll get there.

Hi Spacey!

Woohoo! Brace day tomorrow! Bet you're so excited. Can't wait for the update and pics!

Death to gaps is right! Did your ortho tell you how long until he closes yours?

Thanks for checking out my story! Good luck tomorrow! :D
