Hi everyone!
Just a quick introduction of myself and say a quick hello!
Turned 32 in Feb! Live in the UK.
Never managed to get any braces while i was a child for all sorts of reasons.
Finally decided to take the plunge.
Married with 2 children. Wife wasn't entirely happy with the idea of me getting braced, but I had already made up my mind.
Just got braced 2 days ago and going through a hard time. Can't complain to the missus for obvious reasons. But i'm sure i'll get used to em soon.
Went for the clear ceramics. They've just fixed the upper ones only for the time being. My next appointment is in 8 weeks time so hopefully i'll have some sort of movement by then.
P.S. What a great forum

Hello Momo
snap! well almost, I'm 32 in the UK and got braced this week too! You've found the right place to ask questions or just have a good cathartic whinge what problems have you been having?
I'm finding it impossible to chew so far, even a tiny bit but I must be making progress because I can now get my top set and bottom set to touch without going oww! I'm using (silicone) wax in the evening and night t cut down on irritation from the brackets.
How long do they reckon you'll need braces? have you a date set for the bottom set? have you got bite issues or overcrowding or gaps going on? is that too many questions all at once?
Best wishes

HI elpi, and thanks for the reply.
I need braces for two years, not sure when they'll fix the lowers as they dont need that much work doing to em.
My problem area is the front 4 teeth at the top. I'll try n post some pics over the weekend to explain, but dont get scared
I don't have so much of an issue with the brace it self, its the palatal bracket (if thats the right term) they glued on to my back teeth thats causing me grief. It touches the sesitive part of my toungue which makes me wanting to throw up everytime. Although its not as bad today.
Got to rush, i'll post back laters.
regards, Momo

Welcome to the forum! I'm new here too, and I've got a few weeks and some change before I get braced. I'm 23, married, with a little boy. My husband thinks I'm nuts too, as this is my third go round with ortho! I won't be able to complain to my hubby, so you complain to me and I'll complain to you! LOL! talk to you soon!

Thanks for the replies.
Day 4 and i'm feeling a little better. I check the mirror every day to see if my teeth have moved
(Though no sign of it yet.)
I'm feeling a lot of pressure on my front teeth though which I suppose is a good sign.
Eating is an absoloute miserable ordeal. I can't bite even with my back teeth because of the sore gums.
I suppose on a positive note I'll be able to shed some pounds during my sentence.
Regards

I keep checking my teeth too, even took a photo no discernable change yet either though I noticed a small gap between my gum and one of my front teeth, like the tooth has tilted back a degree and the gum hasn't caught up yet.
Sorry to hear that eating is such a chore, I managed a sheperds pie yesterday, supermarket ready meal type therefore it was mostly gravy and mash, it tasted sooooo good even without chewing!!! Would recommend - if you're not a vegetarian that is.

hi I am uk too although a little older at 51
there are far more adults around with them on here in uk that I thought there would be
I have had my braces 6 weeks not and there are definate gaps opening up ... so movement does not take long to take place ....... how much is visivle depends I suppose on how crowded the teeth are to start . Mine dont overlap , they just all need to move forward ! NOt sure if the rate of movemnt remains sorta stready or whether the intitial movement is more visible . Whatever , it still seems faster than I anticipated.
The pain / discomfort DOES get better ..... REALLY
