molar bands

#1 Post by rolo »

I have ceramics on the bottom and no molar bands. Completely trust my ortho in that it's not best in my case. But out of curiosity why do some have them and not others.

I thought they were only used if appliances, such as expanders, nance buttons etc needed them to attach onto, and if the molar was filled. Today went onto a website of a UK ortho company, orthoworld, not my own ortho, (looking to mail order a toothbrush) and their website assumed it was standard practice. I.e. my not having them was the exception not the norm.

Any ideas?

There are plenty of people on the board who do not/have not had molar bands, myself included. Maybe it's standard practice in the UK, but it doesn't seem to be so across the board.

It seems to be an ortho's preference as to whether s/he uses them or not. Count yourself lucky!

I have molar bands on my lower molars, but buccal tubes on my upper molars. In my case all the molars are filled, but my lower teeth needed much more work than my uppers. I haven't had any appliances.

Thanks, yes I am grateful I don't have them, they don't sound like much fun, I'm pleased my ortho's preference was not to use in my case, good to know there are others out there without them too.

I have no molar bands; my Ortho hates them. I'm having trouble with a bracket staying though, so will c if that is what they will do to secure it.

I don't have molar bands either, five of my eight molars have tubes. Will probably have the upper second molars brought in, but not sure about the lone lower as of yet since it's a crown. I had molar bands the first time around.

I, on the other hand, do have molar bands. 2 on top and 2 on the bottom. 4 total. I guess it's up to each ortho and the treatment plan he is going to use.
