hi Rolo.. i actually just posted about it. i am not feeling the best right now and i actually feel as though maybe i should not have got them at all..
not really any pain except when i brush, and to be honest i don't completely hate the look of the lowers like i thought i would, i guess because you cant see the top so it doesn't look how you imagine someone with braces too look.
its just the speech and comfort factor that is driving me crazy!!!!!!
i can hardly talk at all and when i do i feel as though i just sound terrible no matter what, i am more self conscious now than before!!!
and it feels so awful in there, full of metal which i can even taste!! my tongue has no room at all and thats what is making me think i will never be able to talk again properly at least why i have these on............
its pretty tough, i need to be stronger i think...

Hi Sonja
I know what you are going through, I have found it quite hard going especially with the speech but I must admit that 9 days on my speech has improved dramatically and most people can not even detect a lisp unless I point it out to them even though I am aware of it.
I found brushing no problem, it was just when my tongue was very sore with rubbing against the brace which was the worst and I felt like pulling them off my teeth but managed to stick with it. I did not find the wax very useful as it was awkward to put on linguals so I bought some Brace eze which is far better but more expensive but certainly worth it.
Let me know how you are coping with yours.

hi Goldbraces, i have not heard of brace eze? i might look it up, maybe ebay has some.......
well day 2 and i am quite depressed, i don't want to be and i am trying so hard to be positive, but then as soon as someone talks to me and i hear my voice talking back i just want to cry... i cant believe how bad it is, there is literally no room.. so from the front teeth all the way to the back my tongue is squashed and hopeless at being able to move enough to talk normally...
so you felt as though your tongue was squashed too?? well if it gets better in around 9 days too i will be really happy with that, i really want to enjoy this experience as i have waited so long to fix my teeth and i have already noticed results which i thought would excite me but because they feel so awful i just dont feel excited about any of it.....
oh and the rainbow passage is the hardest thing to say...

Hi Sonja, I do feel for you! The first few days are defintely the worst for speech and tongue soreness. My top arch is quite narrow, so bit of tounge squashing going on, but my teeth moved quickly, so now there is enough room for my tongue - if that makes sense. I think that helps the speech too. I did go through a couple of days of quite literally eating five + strips of wax a day - I rememember working out at the end of day three if I carry on like this I will significantly add to my treatment cost!!! I ordered over the internet cause I was too embarassed to take any more from the ortho! As far as the speech - yes the rainbow passage is hard to say without a brace in, but singing along to music worked wonders for me. The other thing that lots of people on here recommend for soreness and speech is keeping well hydrated. I drink a lot of hot water, which partly I liked in place of tea anyway, and partly I found more soothing. Hope you feel a bit better today. It does get better, once you are used to things they are pretty cool, as you said teeth straightened without looking like you are wearing braces is good.
its day 3 now and still no happiness... if i can make myself believe it will get better i will be ok, but it seems hopeless, every time i open my mouth i sound just terrible and thats when i have the most doubts about it ever improving..
i have to go to work tomorrow for the fist day as i had friday off as a recovery day.. i am dreading going in, i don't want to talk to anyone or see anyone i might have to talk too....
i know you are all saying it will get better as it did for you, so i will keep reminding myself of that, and try to stay positive the best i can...
the wax definately helps comfort wise however not with speaking, i dont know if it is supposed to help there but for me all it does is take up more room in the tiny space thats left..

It will get better!!! The wax helped my speech in that it stopped my tongue getting sore, my speech was worst when my tongue got sore. I thought my speech was quite noticible, although nobody else noticed - even my Mum - I spoke to her on the phone, a couple of hours after, thinking I didn't sound great, she forgot I was having the work done and didn't notice. Which left me wondering wether to be relieved it wasn't noticible or cross because she forgot! LOL! People on here felt significantly better after a week, now three weeks in mostly I don't notice my speech at all, maybe I have to concentrate on the odd word when I'm tired. I drink a lot of water at work, as I have to speak a lot in my job, it stops my tongue getting sore. People at work didn't notice, although I thought I sounded different, I guess people are too busy with their own issues maybe? Hope you go on okay tomorrow.
well i hope so because i dont think i can go on with treatment if it stays like this. i think perhaps today was the worst speech wise.. i cant seem to say anything and everyone except my boyfriend who is just being kind notices big time.. at home its funny for everyone to laugh which i dont mind at all, i am laughing along at times too and my friends are getting me to say all the 's' words because its hilarious for them to hear... i dont mind any of that but its the thought of going out in public and talking at work that has got me really stressed...
everyone says they feel a bit better a few days in, its now the end of day 3 and my speech has not improved one little bit and its not even because my mouth is sore because its not sore at all, it feels fine... maybe its not going to get any better for me like it has for everyone else. i thought i would be a bit better by now at least....

I think it took me about 2 weeks to sound a lot better. I still lisp on a few words particularly when I talk fast or if I've been talking a lot.
I work as a secondary school teacher and was very anxious about talking in front of my pupils thinking that they wouldn't be very kind about my speech. A lot of them noticed but on the whole they have been very good about it, most of them are curious about the fact they can't see my braces (and some are jealous that they haven't got them!). I have had quite a few requests to say things like "sizzling sausages"!
You will notice your speech a LOT more than anyone else will and it will get loads better soon!
Try to keep smiling, it will be worth it in the end

hi, ok so will try not to think about it for a while. maybe i am expecting too much but i thought after 4 days i would notice even the slightest improvement or at least someone around me would...
today at work is really hard, when the phone rings i just sort of stare it hoping it will go away......
being a school teacher would be hard but you are lucky they are ok about it, that’s really mature of them actually..
So 2 weeks… do you think I am expecting too much to feel a bit better after only 4 days???
Oh yeah I am drinking about 1.5ltrs a day, I could maybe try to drink more..

Extraction
Just had a tooth extracted yesterday so there is room made to straighten my upper teeth. The pain was worse than what the brace has been - I was in agony with it. Still abit sore today. Beginning to question why the hell am I going through with this. I must be mad.
