Good luck for the 30th :D before you know it your be on the other side.

As too, if your be functioning ok by then, id say you should be okish, but depends on how you recover and the exact details of the function. Expect to be pretty swollen still tho.

My surgery is on April 29th. I'm having a BSSO and possible also a Lefort I.
I've been told various times at which I should be ok to go back to work. My orthodontist told me at least 3 weeks, my surgeon told me 4 weeks, and it depends on if your job involves a lot of talking or not. I've also been told that it really depends on the person and the circumstances, and that you'll know what you're capable of. so I'm assuming that work / big event shouldn't really be too different.

good luck on your surgery!

thanks for the feedback, i dont know whether to be excited, nervous or scared! This surgery to me is like a life changing experience! i been looking forward to this since i was told i needed it and that was over 4 years ago and only been braced for 2 years
im really just hoping its all for the better which it most likely is, but i never know. Having braces changed my look alot...everytime i'd get them tighten something on my little face would change and i would be so surprised at first but i learned to get use to it after a while lol. so i know this surgery would make a huge difference!

Are you going to be in the hospital? Do you have someone to help you out the first few days post-op?

There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when people feel up to resuming activities----too many variables come into play. Just plan on not having a plan and being flexible as to what you feel up to at the time---that's all you can do now.

Remember to ice, ice, ice to reduce the swelling for at least the first 48 hours. How swollen you are could have an impact on how ready you feel about attending that event. The rest just depends on your circumstances and you as an individual.

Keep us posted, and take some before and after photos if you'd like to share!

I had Le Forte I last Tues. It really helped me to look at photos of people after the surgery. There are several people with blogs and photos each day. I am blogging at www.theadventuresofspidermom.blogspot.com, but only for a few days. People's blogs tell a lot about how they are feeling, what they are able to do, and photos show how the physical changes are coming. This was comfortiing for me. I know each case is different, but reading through several helped me visualize what it would be like.

I made a daily schedule for immediate post-op (I went home same day at noon) for meds, mouth rinse, nose sprays, consuming water and foods, and everything I had to do each day. It really helped keep it all straight, especially since some meds require food before taking, oral care after all food. I just went down the list, and my family came in to help and check everything off. Made it more sane, especially first day or two when I was groggy from anesthsia and pain meds.

Also, if you go straight home, be careful about getting up on your own for 3 days. I passed out on the 2nd day, and almost did again that night. I was told by many friends that can happen after general anesthsia and to have someone walk with you everywhere you go for a while.

Best of luck! It will be worth it. Just 2-3 rough days afterward and you should be feeling much better!

I'll be thinking about you!

Just wanted to wish you good luck for the big day. I would guess you will be fine for your event by 2 1/2 weeks post op .... assuming it is something you want to go to. If it is an ex boyfriends wedding, well now you have the perfect excuse not to go

Surgery went well from what my OS and his team said. My swelling isnt as bad as i expected, my face just looks huge. Far as pain, im kinda in pain now as i type and its really hard for me to breathe so i'm going to make this kinda brief so i can lay down for a while. i havent been able to drink at all, its really hard for me to swallow. i'll post later when i feel alot better...

I am so glad you made it through - and well enough to post already! Kudos to you! Keep up the ice and make an effort to get some water ro Gatorade in you - it is really important.

Hope you are able to drink soon! And I have been thinking about you. I know you will be feeling better soon.

My OS told me I would feel like I couldn't swallow, but I could. He was right. I put a hand over my mouth and held my lips together. That helped me. And I tucked my chin down. That made it less painful.

Keep us posted on how you are doing!
