Yay ilovemacs thats such a great present! Once you've used electric you'll never go back to boring old manual brushing. They make your teeth so much smoother and cleaner.

I don't have braces yet so I can't give you any specific tips on that, but when I first got my Oral-B I stopped doing as much of the vigorous "back & forth" motion with the brush. Instead I focus on one tooth at a time and the gum area around it and let the power do all the work  Not quite sure if that's the correct technique but it seems to be the most thorough! Hope that helps some.

Oh and I don't use regular toothpaste in the tube anymore, I get the Colgate 2-in-1 Toothpaste & Mouthwash (can you buy that where you live?) because it's a bit more liquid and froths up better. The tube stuff is generally too thick and gluggy. This doesn't replace regular mouthwash despite it saying that it can - its just a better texture.

Anyways, hope you've had a fantastic Christmas and Happy 2008 which isn't far away!

Good for you!!!

I got a Triumph (Oral-B) for Christmas after starting out with a Vitality a couple months ago. I don't think I can ever go back to manual brushing!

Glad to hear the braces heads work so well. I'm not braced yet, but I've been stocking up on the replacement heads for when I am - I have a 2-year supply! (Seriously, 8 sets of the bracket heads and the power tips.)

When you need more of the replacement heads, I suggest eBay. I've been getting mine from seller whammy11111 for $6 for a 2-pack!

Like kittymeow said, I just focus on tooth-by-tooth and let the brush do the work. I have to be careful because my gums are already fairly recessed. As for toothpaste, I still use regular and I hold the tube right up to the brush head and squeeze it so it goes down inside the bristles. That keeps it from flinging off as soon as I turn the brush on.

Are you gonna post a review of the brush heads in Dental Do-Dads?
Braced for the first time on January 17th, 2008!

Thanks everyone for the replys!! I love it!! You're right I don't think I'll go back to manual again!!
I can get that toothpaste or a similar gel one. I find the gel ones "froth" up better!!

The braces brush heads allow you to get inside the wires better and get into the "nooks and crannys" of the braces. I am focusing on tooth by tooth and trying to adapt the intructions to brush as per my ortho, because it's a bit different for electric.

One major plus: My teeth look whiter!! Not that they're that yellow but they look whiter. I don't know if that's just me.

I surely will post a review of the brush and the brush heads on Dental Do-Dads, sometime soon, either in a few days or just after the new year!! :D

I thought my teeth looked whiter after I started using my electric toothbrush too! It must not be just in our heads, then. :D

Guessing here, but it's probably better at taking off the surface stains. And maybe they reflect light better when they're nice and shiny clean!

I'll look forward to your reviews. One thing I'm interested in is how long the heads last before they get frayed up. I'll probably post up a review of the Triumph (as compared to the Vitality) at some point.

I have to admit I love my Sonicare but I hate buying replacement heads. I'm only able to get two weeks out of it before I feel I need to replace the head. You might want to consider a discount club to buy in larger quanities than from your local box store. I also use a manual for my morning and after meal brushings.

I'm not sure why, but I absolutely agree with you that my mouth feels much cleaner with the Sonicare.

iBorg - I dont know about where you are, but here the replacement heads are SO expensive! Its like $25 for a set of three. Call me stingy but its so steep....mine last quite a while though - I guess I feel the same about replacement razor heads too. Too costly for a disposable item!

Same price here. I could go longer but the clean feeling is worth the extra money for the replacement.

2 weeks!! I don't know how I feel about that. The replacement Oral-B braces heads are pretty pricey, they come in at a scary $27.99 in Canada for four. Two PowerTips and two orthodontic brush heads. :o

I had a very simple adjustment yesterday!
Here was what happened:

9:42 AM- my ortho's courtesy van picked me up at school Right at the front door! How cool is that?!

?- Arrived at the ortho's office
Immediately went "on deck"

went into one of the treatment pods.

The ortho took off my old ligs and wire. I thought that was kind of odd as the assistants always do that stuff. I think he just had an extra few minutes, as he always comes and looks at my progress anyways. He put the new wire in. Before he left the treatment pod he complimented me on my brushing!! He said "Lots of good brushing there!!" :D

The assistant put new ligs on. Hot pink and teal!

Another assistant came and did one bottom impression as I get my bottoms in 7 days. It's two days before finals start but I'll survive!

I got a new toothbrush (ortho- cut)! Yippee!!

The shuttle took me back to school too. I arrived back at school at 10:27 AM.

Here's a pic: Image

I got my bottoms on today!! It was the exact same procedure as back in October! Fairly simple. My 2nd molars on the bottom aren't banded yet, but I know they will be eventually! The tops will never be done! I got a (only one) molar build up. :? It wasn't that bad. :) It feels a bit odd but it's fine. The pain is starting to set it. I have six hooks on the bottom arch and only a mere two on the top!! Here are some pics!! The molar build up is clear. I put a red box because it under one of those teeth. The molar build up is to prevent me from biting down on one of the teeth in the front.
Overall: :D

And only one more:

I love that colour combination Macs :D I hope you don't get too much discomfort and that you soon adjust to the molar buildup.

That's cool about your ortho's courtesy bus picking you up and taking you back afterwards. I wish mine did that. Parking in town is a pain!

Keep us posted with your progress.

Piece of cake!! It feels normal already! The tooth "in question" is still touching the bracket though, or at least I think it is. I'm not sure. I'm going to sleep on the though of calling them, and revisit the situation in the morning.

The courtesy van is pretty awesome!!

I love the colour combo too! The two pinks are different- the tops are hot pink and the bottoms are light pink. The no- hot pink- because of eight weeks- rule applies again! :? I love your powerchains!!

Thanks everyone for stopping by!!
