Last Meal....

#1 Post by fluffybottom »

Tomorrow morning I am getting braces on my top arch (finally! yay!) so tonight I want to treat myself to a nice meal! Something that I won't be able to have (or, at least, should avoid) for the next two years while I am in hardware.

So those of you already in braces, if you could take them off for one meal and have anything, what would you eat?
I had my braces on for 2 years, 1 month, 2 weeks and 2 days.

It's not really a meal, more of a side dish but I do crave crusty french bread with real butter on it mmm....

I find very little that I couldn't eat when I was first braced. Off course there were a few times when I decided not to eat something for fear of knocking a bracket off. My choice for a last meal...something chewy and gooey that would be hard to clean. Ribs on a bone would be a good choice along with corn on the cob.

Have fun with the process.

Remember to chew to keep the blood flowing.

Really? I was quite the opposite, I wanted to tough it out and chew stuff but there was no way on earth :D Two weeks in though things are getting a LOT better on that score...

My last pre-brace meal was a deep dish pizza (I'm from Chicago) and a Snickers bar.

While I was in braces, I craved caramel corn and a big juicy hamburger. I found that I had some difficulty biting into things for a while - I could chew and eat pretty much anything, but biting didn't work so well for a while. So, I could have had a hamburger and cut it up into pieces, but that wasn't what I wanted.

Good luck on your food selections and on your braces!

Similarly, while everything seems to be able to be cut and eaten, there isn't quite like anything else: biting into a fresh ripe juicy apple. 8)

Thai peanut chicken wings, YUM!!! I've eaten them once since I've been braced and it's no fun cutting them off the bone.

Anything that you have to pick up and bite like pizza, burgers etc. Even though I can now bite into a burger it all gets stck in my brackets and I have to spend 10 minutes picking it all out! Ruins the experience. Also have some really crunchy nachos- they are the one thing I've found I really cant eat now :(

I actually ate ribs off the bone within my first week of being braced. My teeth didn't hurt, and I was extra careful so i thought "why not?!". I managed ok for the first few ribs, but after a while it was getting tricky trying to manouvre all the meat around my brackets, so I ended up giving it to my boyfriend to polish off.

I hope your banding went ok!

This wouldn't really constitute as a "meal" per se, but I could really go for some corn on the cob, some Laffy Taffy and Starbursts!!! Also, some Hot Fries... not because I can't eat them now, but because the clean-up process with braces is long and tiring. LOL
