Andantae,

I've been thinking about you! I hope everything went splendidly for your surgery and that you are up and posting again soon! I am sending you little jaw-healing fairies to help knit everything together again! They did wonders for me! :D

P.S. (So sorry that you will be off horseback this summer)

Congrats...and a few questions

#34 Post by jackievandam »

I am sooo glad you are doing well...I am two weeks out from BSSO and genio and doing pretty great too...I still have swelling- but if you didn't know me you probably wouldn't notice...I was wondering if your surgeon ever mentioned relapse on the BSSO?? I had my bands changed and now my overjet is more than it was immediately post-op and I feel like a neurotic patient- NO RELAPSE PLEASE!! I know it is just a mm or two- but any "overbite" at all makes me so nervous.
I am sure you are going to continue to do great...I did need the genio- but my surgeon mentioned as well that he would look at me in surgery and see...looks like it was necessary!

Hi Jackie!

Glad you are doing so well, too!

My OS only mentioned at our initial meeting a year ago that relapse was a possibility with this surgery. I think Brandyleigh even mentioned that she has a small relapse? I wonder sometimes if they might plan for that when they bring the teeth so close to the uppers?

I don't blame you, however, for being nervous about it and I think I would call my OS and get their opinion-mostly because if he felt like it was of concern, there is still time to get you back in bands, if necessary-maybe they will tell you that they expect a small relapse. Definitely give them a call; it's worth it for your peace of mind and that is what they are there for!

Hi guys!!!! I made it! Well, in a way I don't know what to say. For everyone who has had a hard time with their surgeries, I feel bad writing this, but for everyone who is having their surgery in the near future----I want to tell you that, I FEEL ABSOLUTLEY FINE NO PAIN WHATSOEVER! I did not use the morphine, nor am I using my vicotin, My OS said I might hit the wall on Saturday as all the really good meds will be out of my system; but we shall see ( he could be mean emotionally). He also remarked on how little swelling I had and how smooth the surgery went.

They moved my lower jaw forward 7 mm's and removed the chin implant, and did not do the genioplasty. I have two guiding triangle bands and can eat anything I don't have to chew. I drink out of a cup just fine even though my lower lip/chin is numb---due to removal of chin implant--he said to expect that to happen. I also am speaking perfectly normal, but my swelling has yet to peak, so we'll see if it remains!

He said both breaks were really clean, the srews went in perfectly, the implant came out just fine. They sprung me earlier this morning instead of this evening. We stopped at Starbucks and I just got back from a .5 walk to the mailbox. I just can't believe how normal I feel! I feel lucky but I am by no means in the minority of things going well surgically and hope this helps those with upcoming surgery dates .

I did have a strange thing happen in pre-op. The nurse there gave me a shot of steriod in my IV line and within seconds I bolted upright knowing I was going to be sick. It was amost instantaneous. The nurse said she had heard of that but I never seen it happen. Weird! After I regrouped she added it slowly and I was fine.

I took some before picture and am taking after pictures to post here, but I will wait a few days until I hit my peak selling and when I can see my jawline afterward.

Thank you all so much for all your support! The knowledge I picked up here on AW has made this process so much easier!

I totally hate you. You weren't even tempted by the morphine button? Hate. Hate. Hate. I LIVED on my button. of course, I didn't know what it was... or that I would get a morphine button until i woke up with a button in hand... but I hit the darn thing as much as I could whenever hubby told me to (which was a lot, apparently)

Seriously, tho, I'm happy for you that it was so smooth and easy. But I still get to hate you too, just a little bit;) hehehe Most of my discomfort though was related to the sinus crap that was done, though, so I'm not too surprised that your lower turned out so fantastically.

What a waste of the morphine button though!!!

Drinking out of a cup already. Hate. HATE! :D

I TOTALLY had this happen too, except it was post-op and I FLIPPED out, took all the ice packs, compression face wraps, breathing masks, etc off my head and tried to remove hospital gown too before husband stopped me. I felt just SO claustrophobic and wanted everything off, felt nauseated, etc. It was also steroid into IV line; the next dose they diluted with saline and I was fine. it's an allergic reaction/side effect of the steroid, mine is genetic as my mother has had the same reaction before.

Did I mention I hated you? LOL I'm glad your home and doing well.

Thank you, Dear AW Buddies!

Arvensis~ You nut! It's OK to hate me a little, BUT, to temper the good outcome of this surgery,I just started PT again on my broken leg which I had surgery on 2.5 years ago---still dealing with that, so I needed a (good) 'break' AND! You are being very kind and generous as our treatments were very different; as you had much bigger procedure(s) than I and you were always so cheerful througout.

I also whole heartedly agree that it is was a waste of a perfectly good morphine button!!!! I just couldn't use it because I felt better than I usually do! -I suspect from all the good meds and I also suspect that part of it might have been from such deep sleep I almost never get.

Also, I didn't say my cup drinking was exactly...ummm....well.... pretty  ....

Weird about your reaction to the steroids, too! I was so shocked! My DH and I were chatting with the nurse and all of a sudden I couldn't believe I was going to throw up!

Rach~ Thank you! I just saw your pearly whites on your thread! AWESOME! Your teeth look so big, white, and pretty! You must be so pleased!!

Loulou~ I derserve to get beat up on wasting the morphine button-espeically since that was the part I was most looking forward to! I am happy things are going well, but I shall take nothing for granted, as we both know things can change, but I will do my best to take care of myself and increase the odds of a good recovery!

iborg~ I am only temporarily not your twin. I wait only for your surgery date and then we will have matching once profiles again! This time for the better :) !

Meryaten~ A big part of why I'm doing well is knowing what to expect and what to do from all the excellent advice I've read over the months---most notably---you! :)

Delag~ Thank you!!! I was suprised about not a moment of nausea either after anesthesia---thank goodness! When I had my leg surgery, I dry heaved 11 times in 1.5 hours post op---very unpleasant! I was worried about that and also not being able to sleep upright, but that seems to be OK, too.

Would you like to see daily progress photos?, or should I just post them all at once--I don't want to bore anyone....

Cheerful? No.

Sarcastic as all get out and making the best of it? Awesome!:)

hehehe. And I feel better knowing your cup experience isn't perfect yet. It would NOT be fair if you skipped EVERY fun little bit of surgery. Sounds like you're not getting the 20 drool rags an hour phase though, and for that, you are missing out. Missing. Out. :)

I'm soooo glad things are going so well for you after your surgery! Where are those Pix. I keep reading about? I would love daily updates or whatever works for you!

I had a similar weak reaction as you did to the steroids, but it was when they gave me laughing gas, of all things (which I had never had before)! I thought I was going to vomit, or pass out! It was really awful. Anyway, I ripped the little nose mask that was delivering it, and they gave me oxygen and I was better really soon.

Here's hoping your recovery continues to be easy and comfortable. I am so happy it has been like that for you! Just be sure to remember your body is still healing, and needs lots of rest! Its easy to do too much when you feel good

:D
