Another adjustment! (I think it was my 5th- 6th including B-day)

I FINALLY got a new wire up top, which makes me very happy. My ortho made fun of me for being excited about it! Also, got red at the bottom, but you can't really tell because I pointed out a gap and a bit of gum recession between my lower right canine and lateral, so my ortho got out the sandpaper strips and did some IPR like she usually does, and then put a powerchain down the bottom. Apparently all the other people who'd had appointments before me had been in a huff about getting IPR, but I get it almost every time and I'm fine with it, and my ortho said she really appreciated that I never did. So, gold star for me.

I'm also back wearing elastics 24/7, one on each side, from my top furthest back braced teeth to my bottom canines. I was told it's to bring my bottom teeth back, or my top ones forward, whichever way that works. My mouth is SORE now! But that doesn't stop me from eating crunchy things. Next time hopefully I won't have powerchains, because I quite like the red ligs.

Here's a picture!

Hey all,

I took a photo yesterday, but it's not a very good one. My top and bottom teeth are coming together more, but that's all for visible changes. Instead I decided to gather together a few "before" shots. This was tricky because I don't tend to smile showing my bottom teeth, which were the most crooked and showed that my bite was off. In fact, I could only find one with me smiling showing my bottom teeth- the first two photos are of me pulling silly faces, and that's why my bottom teeth are visible. But I thought I'd post some before shots to show how far I've come! It's been like 9 months now.

Wow, thanks everyone for your lovely words! It's weird to think I've had braces for 9 months now. I remember when I first joined I read lots of posts talking about how time flies when you have braces, and it really is true! I'm hoping that this time next year they'll be off, but we'll see. I never ask my ortho how my progress is because I don't want to be either disappointed or get my hopes up.

Another adjustment today!

Lots of action for my top teeth, almost none for my bottoms- in fact, all they did on the bottom was change my ligs and take out the powerchain. I have a black triangle on the bottom between my right lateral incisor and my canine, and I’m hoping my ortho will do some IPR to shape the teeth and close it a bit sometime. I pointed it out to her last time, but she didn’t seem too concerned. I’ll mention it again next time, anyway. I really like the red ligs, though.

On the top my left lateral’s bracket had come loose (the third so far, I had two before last adjustment) and the hygienist mentioned that lots of people had come in during the past week with loose brackets, so I wonder if there was something wrong with the bonding or something. Anyway, I got quite a few brackets on the top changed, got a new (I think lighter) wire up top and got a wire tie put on my right upper canine to rotate it a little. I know that supposedly ceramics don’t stain, but I can tell the difference in colour between the new ceramics they put on today and the other older ones. In the picture, my upper left central and my right lateral are old ones, and I can definitely tell the difference. It’s not nearly as noticeable as lig staining, though, but definitely interesting that I can notice. See if you can tell- you might not be able to, though, because it’s a small version of the photo.

Also, I’m only wearing elastics at night now, the same configuration as before. My ortho told me it’s just for retention purposes. It's good to see that my top teeth are overlapping my bottom teeth more like they should be. Also, nice to have a bit of freedom, and it means I spit less! This configuration seems to cause me saliva problems :S

Here’s a photo! My next adjustment is on July 22nd.

Also, my ortho said that she's really impressed with my progress and that it's going really well. She even came out into the waiting area (right next to the adjustment room) to tell my mum (I don't live with my mum but she's kind enough to give me lifts to the ortho because it's not easy to get to for me by public transport). I still didn't want to ask if she could give me an idea of how much longer I have left. I don't want to be disappointed or get my hopes up.

Wow, your teeth look beautiful. I really like the contrast of the clear uppers/white archwire with the red ligs! Great progress so far!
